Pre-race routine:

Ate terrible the night before and my stomach was still not feeling great race morning.
Event warmup:

Easy 11 minute run.
Run
  • 24m 47s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

First mile felt pretty good. Went out a little fast but I was able to hold back and not get sucked into the rest pack of faster runners. Second mile was harder. My heart rate was creeping up. But I held my pace pretty well. Third mile my HR was reaching max, so I backed off a little and slowed down. Mile splits 8:07, 8:09, 8:19.

17 seconds slower than last year.
What would you do differently?:

more training
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

10 seconds faster than last year. Didn't have to make and clothing decisions.
Bike
  • 37m 24s

  • 17.65 mile/hr
Comments:

I kind of had a bumpy start out of T1. I hadn't tested my bike after arriving, and it wasn't in a gear. So it took a bit to get started. But once I did I felt pretty good. Tried not to push it too hard up the hills. I was often passing lots of folks on the descents, but was passed by them on the ascents. As usual, my climbing needs a lot of work.

2:31 faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

more hill training
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

21 seconds faster. Much better.
Run

Comments:

Whoa! My legs felt terrible off of the bike. I didn't really get a chance to spin out my legs at the end of the bike since riding across the grass to transition was tough. It took a bit to get up to speed in the first mile. The second mile was just trying to push it as hard as I could, knowing I was close to the end. Looks like I may have found a new max heart rate a couple of beats higher. I gave it all I had. I finished 2 min 27 sec faster than last year which is great. Faster in T1, T2 and the bike. But both runs were slower. I guess I know what I need to be working on. But considering my very limited training right now, I'm feeling pretty good about my performance. Mile splits 8:18, 8:10
What would you do differently?:

practice more brick runs and more speed training.
Post race
Warm down:

shuffling and stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

more work on my run

Event comments:

This is a really great early season duathlon. More than 100 people this year which is great.
