Swim
Comments: I very much enjoyed starting off pier. Water temp was warm, but nice as well. Better than 66 which it was a few days later. Transition 1
Comments: Slow transition, Very long run up beach and to bike transition area. HR was very high after swim, I walked a bit to catch breath What would you do differently?: try to run through transition, though needed to rest Bike
Comments: lots of drafting as well. It was very hard to avoid drafting. lots of people on course. I was passed by groups of riders obviously helping each other. Myself guilty I'm sure as a worked through a group of riders in a pass. Hard not to draft. Transition 2
Comments: smooth transition Run
Comments: need to train more on run. More bricks as well. I hit the wall with 3 miles to go. Luckily, I old high school swimming teammate of mine ranup next to me. (I had passed him earlier). I didn't know he was doing the race until that morning. We finished the race together pulling each other along. What would you do differently?: train more, more bricks more long runs, run more in heat. Post race
Warm down: walked, tried not to pass out. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was limited on time in training. Hard to find time to do the very long training workouts. Event comments: overall, I thought the race was very well done. Lots of support on bike/run course. Lots of people scattered to cheer athlete on. Would have liked a smoother road on bike. I would recommend this race to any doing a half-ironman. Especially, a 1st like myself due to the tremendous support. Last updated: 2006-05-08 12:00 AM

Got up about 4:45, stayed with brother-in-law who lives in subdivision next to transition zones. Took showered, used restroom, ate oatmeal, toast with peanut butter, and drank water, and gatorade endurance formula. Went to transition area at 6:00AM, set up area, got on shuttle to start of race at 6:15 or so. wet suit on at start.
