Pre-race routine:

With a later 9:00am start I was able to sleep in until 5:30am. Got up and ate some fruit and bagle and sipped on some Lemon-Lime Perform. Tried not to overdue the fluids so that I wouldn't be going to the bathroom every 10 minutes and it seemed to work.

Did light swim in lake with some breast stroke and backstroke.

Comments:

New goggles leaked a little after first bouy turn so I had to flip on my back and adjust. This kind of threw off my rhythm but I think I recovered pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Since I had to put my goggles on first then swim cap I waited until I was in the chute and must not have adjusted my goggles correctly. Should have done that sooner.

Cut my T1 time in half from last year. Went pretty smoothly with no major hitches.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't like how my bike was mounted on the seat. Took a few seconds to get under the bar.

Felt great and only got passed by about 15-20 people. Other than that I was passing people the whole course. Felt comfortable on all the climbs even the mile long hill.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I install my aero bottle the right direction (haha). I was tempted to stop and fix it but figured the amount of time I would lose would not even be close to the amount I was losing with it the wrong way.

Overall good transition. Made a game time decision to grab my Nathan Quickdraw and fill with water at aid staion which I am very gald I did since i used it to keep me cool on the run.

There is an extremely large down hill and up hill right out of transition that I dread and I just could not keep my HR down. I wasn't wearing a HR monitor but I could just tell that I was in upper Z5 and just couldn't get it back down. Did some a few short up hill walks in miles 1-3 but had to walk a few times during mile 4 which I was not happy about.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not push as hard on the bike. Last year I averaged 8:18/mile so I should have had a better run.

Warm down:

Drank some Gatorade and water and did some light stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was hot but I think I could have backed off the bike a little bit.

Course: This is an extremely hilly course but this year I wanted to push myself on the bike and did that. Increased my speed by almost 2 mph from last year. Felt really strong this year and still had some left for the run (at least I thought)
