Swim
Comments: Bad swim. I felt like I was moving ok, but could not hold a straight line. Also, I had trouble sighting. This was only my 2nd OWS race this year, and only my 4th time in OW this year. What would you do differently?: Train more specifically for OWS and sighting. Transition 1
Comments: From the exit from the water till I got on my bike, everything went pretty smooth. What would you do differently?: I was positioned closest to the T1 entrance, opposite corner from bike exit. Setting up opposite T1 entrance next to Bike exit may have worked just as well. Bike
Comments: Once I shifted into the big ring about 2 blocks out of T1, I never left it. No hills big enough for the little ring. What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed it a little harder. My average HR was a bit low, but I did average nearly 24 mph (their results say 24.3, but that is based on 34 miles--it was closer to 33.5). Still, I'm happy with how I road. I wanted a top 5 bike split so that worked out. Transition 2
Comments: We had to run a good 50 yards after dismounting. Timing mat was at the T2 entrance. What would you do differently?: Other than the info above for T1, nothing really. Run
Comments: The results had/have overall finishers #23 and 73 as #1 and #2 in the run and me at 7th. I don't think they were 1 and 2 so that would move me to 5th. What would you do differently?: I lost my gel so I used a running belt with sports drink in one of the flasks (50% water/juice mix). I think the weight of the run belt and not having the calories from the gel slowed me down. Good first loop. I passed and was ahead of the #1 guy in my AG at about mile 2.5, but then he passed me at mile 5 (just a bit into lap two) as I started to fade. I started hitting the sports drink, but it was a little too late. I had a great first lap, and a not so great second, so it was an average run. I should have been able to hold a 6:10-6:15 average pace. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Calories. Event comments: Lot of time passed before the awards and almost everyone was gone. Some of that had to do with the weather too. Last updated: 2012-03-05 12:00 AM

Set up the Tri-Rochester tent, got transition area set up. Put on wetsuit and headed to the water.
Only got about 5 min of swimming in to warm up. Not that great, but the water was pretty warm. Main thing was to get my goggles used to the water so they wouldn't steam up.
