Swim
Comments: Went out fast - my intention was to sprint the swim - why not? It so short and I have been training with 4500 yds!! Worked out well, but had more contact than usual - especially around the buoy at the top. Once I cleared that, I found a perfect lane into the finish. What would you do differently?: May adjust my training to do 500 yd "sprints" prior to my next sprint distance. I felt good, butwas a bit winded running into T1. Transition 1
Comments: 5th best T1 - everything went smoothly. Racks were very tight on space, so I was happy to find my stuff intact from the 1st 2 waves. What would you do differently?: Practice getting on bike at starting up more quickly. Bike
Comments: I was determined to go all out on the bike and I did. Stayed with the eventual race winner, trading passes through out the ride. Naturally, the "pro cyclist" blew by us all in 29:27, but I didnt expect to hang with him. I was happy with my effort and my results - I knew I had to get some seperation from some of the better runners. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: I had the 73rd best T2, so I guess I could have shaved some time here, but the winner was 43 seconds and had the 58th best, so not mush real opportunity. I had to get socks on for the run, which is why it takes me a few extra seconds. What would you do differently?: Find socks that go on my feet easier in a sweaty situation. Run
Comments: Pretty good run for me - the lead I gave myself on the bike was enough to hold off some of the runners, but I did get caught my a long-legged 50-something who had a stride like a giraffe - he came in 4th. Other than that, I did not get passed. The winner, who I hung with on the bike, took off and lost me on the run quickly - his run beat me by 2 minutes. What would you do differently?: I did ok, but cant help thinking that a few more sprint distance bricks may have given me the minute I needed. Post race
Warm down: I didnt drink anything during the race, so chugged a Gatorade and water - it was very humid. Hung with the boys from the Y and cheered on others. Felt great after the race. Maybe I could have gone harder? What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I went as hard as I could, but maybe there's more to reach into. Event comments: ANother fine job by the Ellington team (Bill D). Lots of enthusiatic volunteers. New run course was a major improvement. I admit, I was disappointed - 5th place (great - very cool!), but 3rd in AG, so no podium action - oh well. Maybe when I turn 50! I really want one of those commemorative glasses! Overall Rank = 5/164
Age Group = M40-49
Age Group Rank = 3/36
Got up at 5am, made coffee, had a bagel and PB (my usual pre-race food). Race is only 10 minutes from my house, so left at abou 5:40am to get good parking as Transition opened at 6am. Got the first spot, which makes me happy. Guy parking next to me had 3 bikes, with a trainer. One ofthebike was a very hot Scott TT with killer wheel, etc. I didnt recognize him, so I introduced myself and commented on his bike - he said I should thank "his sponsor"! Assuming he wasnt an alcoholic, I asked if he was a professional tri-dude (in Ellington!?!?!) and he said this was his "first triathlon" (sure) and he is a professional cyclist. Great, now my local home town sprint Tri is attracting Pro's for a 13 mile bike.
Wandered and swam a bit. Had a G1. Did some meaningless stretching.
