Swim
Comments: Horrible swim. I really couldn't get a rhythm going from the beginning then I got behind a slower swimmer that wouldn't let me pass. This caused people to back up behind me that I kept having to let pass. Finally I passed the swimmer, but got even more out of rhythm doing it which caused a short panic attack on lap 4. It didn't get much better from there. Thankfully it was finally over!! What would you do differently?: Swim more so that I'm more confident in the pool and practice race pace swimming. Transition 1
Comments: Long run around transition after the swim and then another long run to bike start. Had everything wrapped in plastic bags because of the rain, so that probably cost me some time. Stopped to put on socks, but I'm not comfortable without them yet! Not a great T1 time, but it allowed me to calm down after a crappy swim! What would you do differently?: Practice transition more! Bike
Comments: One of my best bikes ever! Lost a few seconds at the beginning because I had forgotten to reset the bike computer, but I got going pretty well after that! I was able to maintain speed going down the hills without getting freaked out, so the training has definitely paid off! The wind slowed me down some, but I kept working with my gears until I found something comfortable. There was a great tailwind for the last 4 miles, which was amazing!! I had to slow way down right before the finish due to cars backed up at the dismount line...couldn't figure out how to get around them, so I finally rode through the grass on the right side! Overall I'm ecstatic about the bike leg...felt comfortable and was able to keep my breathing under control! What would you do differently?: Make sure I check the bike computer before the race! Train more so I can get faster!! Transition 2
Comments: Slower than I should have been! Long run into transition and I walked some to get the heart rate under control! Stopped to take a drink of water... What would you do differently?: Practice transition more and get better at drinking on the bike! Run
Comments: Great run...the fastest official 5K I've ever done!! I had an issue with my Garmin, so I wasn't sure of my pace the whole time, but I felt great and was able to keep the breathing under control!! I walked a little when I started to get winded, but was able to pick it right back up! I'm extremely happy with my run!! What would you do differently?: Keep running to get faster!! Post race
Warm down: Not enough!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Training and weight! Event comments: Set-Up events put on a great race. It was extremely well organized and the course was well marked. I think my favorite part was that it's a race with flushing toilets...no porta-potties!!!! This race is definitely on my list for the future!! Last updated: 2012-03-25 12:00 AM

Ate a bagel and some cream cheese before leaving the house. Left around 6 to head out to Smithfield, so we got there early and were able to get set up and marked before 8! Since my start time wasn't until 11:44, I had plenty of time to walk around and get nervous! Ate a banana and some fig newtons around 9:30 then got ready to watch the beginning of the swim start.
Just walking around all morning
