Run
Comments: This run didn't go nearly as well as I was hoping. I guess that's to be expected when you look at my training logs from August. I went out starting at 12:00 miles. I was planning on that for the first 4 miles and then get steadily faster. Unfortunately, I got a large blister on the arch of my foot at mile 4, which made running incredibly painful. It hurt to put my foot down. I don't know if my socks got bunched up or if I didn't break my shoes in enough or what. Anyway, from that point on it was pretty much downhill. I had to alternate walking and running because my feet hurt so much. I also tried to keep my heart rate lower (under 170), so I started walking when that got too high. Had a Gu around mile 7. Around mile 8, I started getting really warm, so I was taking a cup of Amino Vital and a cup of water at each aid station. There were not enough aid stations between miles 8 and 10. I was so thirsty and that point and I was just trying to keep moving. Once I turned onto the boardwalk, they had a lot of misters and more water, so it was easier to keep cool. Plus, there was a breeze coming in off of the ocean, so I felt a lot better. I was able to run the last 15 blocks and over the finish, so I was really happy. A volunteer came up to me right after and asked if I was okay. I must have looked like I was going to fall over. Looking at my results, I'm a bit disappointed. I probably could have had a better run, but it just wasn't going to happen that day. What would you do differently?: More training, more pre-race hydration. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got my sandals and gear bag and then headed over to the beach to hang out with some BTers. Husband and I walked back to the hotel (30 blocks!) and stopped to get some ice cream. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, heat, and a really crowded course. There were people everywhere!! Event comments: There were points on the course where there weren't enough aid stations. I know that some people had problems with the gear check - trucks left before they got there - but I didn't. The post-race was really crowded and had pretty long lines for all the food. Got up, showered, and dressed. Ate a clif bar and some apple juice while walking from my hotel to a friend's hotel. Caught the shuttle over to the expo center. Dropped off my gear bag, had a bottle of water, did some stretching, and waited in the porta potty line. Then, headed over to the corral for the start of the race.
none.
