Pre-race routine:

The night before I went to dinner and had grilled fish with beans and rice. Bed at 10, up at 4, felt good. Oatmeal with raisins and a cup of coffee for breakfast. Got to the race site around 6. Set up trans, ate a cliff bar around 0710. Start time was around 0742.
Event warmup:

Did not warm up before the race. I hung out with other racers and talked. Next time I need to swim a little before the race. I think this caused me to get winded early in the swim and I was mostly through it before I got into my rhythm.
Swim
  • 09m 35s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't warm up prior to the swim. I started well but I got a little winded early. I was ready for it so I got things calmed down and on pace before half way. Good navigation. Swam straight to my targets. I was a little off at the last minute on one buoy, but it was no big deal. Coming in I was strong. Felt good coming out. The whole field had a slower swim time than last, including me. Felt good coming out.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before. Also,I need to aim outside of the buoys instead of at them. On two buoys I put myself to cut the corner close and both times I got stuck behind a slow swimmer from the previous wave practically treading water next to the buoy so I got jammed up in traffic. I need to aim around 10ft outside of the buoy to stay clear of traffic. The small amount of extra swimming is a small price to pay to avoid getting stopped and keeping the pace going. I also came across a buoy anchor line, but that was no big deal.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Good transition. About the same from last time. Good plan, equipment was laid out well. I wear socks and have standard cycling shoes.
What would you do differently?:

There's not much different I can do without buying new equipment like tri specific cycling cleats.
Bike
  • 46m 18s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Small tailwind going out for the first half of the out leg until we got into the trees. Felt strong and pushed harder than before. Good turnaround, back up to pace quick. I got a little tired when I got back into the wind for the last part. I stayed in the aero position much more this time. I only changed to the drops when I was getting tired.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, good ride. I'm improving every race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

First race with my speed laces. HUGE improvement on time. Good plan, equipment was laid out well.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to change, everything went smooth. I could practice my T1 and T2 more.
Run
  • 22m 50s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. I drank no water and didn't take any to cool off. Honestly, I didn't need to. I was running well and I didn't want to slow down. I'm running pretty fast and getting faster. Good stuff.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked until my body cooled down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm faster than the last race. I'm improving.

Event comments:

Good race. Fast course. Great race to use as a training race or a beginning race. Friendly, helpful staff. Things went smooth. Good location.
