Swim

  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

The running beach start was a breeze except for the fact that no one on my side of wave could hear the start, so we were all caught a little off guard. Despite that slight set back, my swim went great. I was extremely comfortable with my pace, breathing, and sighting. The 100 yd run uphill to T1 was a pain, but it was fairly easy. My actual in/out of water time was 10:50.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention at the start! Also it was hard to sight coming back into the shore. They could have used a buoy or something to indicate the run up path. Also in future races on this course I would suggest creating a better run up the beach to T1. Once you got off of the beach there was a clear path that was nice...but the beach had spectators milling around so it made it hard find the run path.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

My T1 was longer than I like, but I still felt good. I didnt want to rush anything since the run up from the swim was longer than usual.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing but just focus on being faster.
Bike
  • 57h 01m

Comments:

My bike needs the most work, and I know that. Considering my history on the bike, I was very pleased with my performance.

***Side Note - Both of my tires were flat after the race. I found a couple of staples in both tires. Luckily I had no problems during the actual race. God bless a slow leak...
What would you do differently?:

Train harder riding on the road. I need to do more open road rides, and get out of my comfort zone of riding around White Rock Lake.
Transition 2

Comments:

T2 was great. No problems.

Comments:

I had a great run...not my best 5k time ever, but my best in a tri! I knew what my overall goal was for the race and kept checking my watch to keep on pace. I kicked it into high gear after mile 1 to ensure that I'd meet my goal. I also past a couple of people in my AG the last 200 yards of race, which always makes you feel good!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, slight stretching, jump in the lake to cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The bike. I need to rack up some serious miles this off-season to shave off some time.

Event comments:

I would totally do this race again next year...it was a really fun race! The running beach start was fun, the bike was tough but not too tough, and the run was awesome.

I'd recommend for future races on this course have a better system for getting out of the water (ie: buoy on the shore and more organized beach run out.) The bike course could also use a good sweeping.

The post-race party was great and we loved the fact that it was on a sand beach. It was awesome to go jump in the water after the race and just float for a couple of minutes.

Course: 1-loop, Typical Farm to Market Road...rolling hills, and a smooth shoulder for most of the way. Although, I counted 6 or 7 flat tires along the way. As for the actual course...it could have used a good sweep prior to the race. There was lots of random stuff (ie: glass, staples, rocks, etc.) to dodge along the way. There is also about a 2-mile long portion where the shoulder is really rough.

Course: Awesome 1-loop shaded, paved trail run. There were a couple of hills, but they were tiny. Tons of water stations. Best run course of any run I've ever done. LOVE the volunteers with the that "misted" you with water along the course!
