Swim
Comments: The first leg was probably the most difficult. Waves were coming right at you which made for an out of balance stroke and slow. The 2nd leg was smooth, mostly passing prior waves. The final leg was difficult against the sun. Fortunately, I could see the sun reflecting off the ramp and aimed for that. Saw two green caps about 100 before the finish, so I surged some to try to pass them. What would you do differently?: Practice more open water swimming. Transition 1
Comments: 5/41 Suit off shoulders just as arrived at bike. Stuck a bit on the heals but not bad. Off with a running start. What would you do differently?: Maybe run faster. Bike
Comments: Like the swim, the first leg was most difficult with some headwind. Then back across the base felt fast. Felt like my HR was too high and I didn't want to cook the bike so pulled back the effort some on the 2nd half. What would you do differently?: Learn what my target pace and HR is for bike. Transition 2
Comments: Shoes a little stuck but quick overall. 7/41 What would you do differently?: Power in the shoes maybe? Run
Comments: Held back some at the start to keep HR down... passed by the leaders shortly before 1 mile I think. Kept a pretty even pace. Mile1: 7:19 Mile2: 7:25 Mile3: 7:11. Felt I like I had an extra gear but couldn't make myself shift to it. Avg Pace Summary 22:08.9 3.03 7:18 1 7:18.6 1.00 7:19 2 7:25.3 1.00 7:25 3 7:10.9 1.00 7:11 4 :14.1 0.03 6:48 What would you do differently?: Didn't drink well at the aid stations... slowed to drink at one and choked at the 2nd one. Need to learn to run and drink and the same time. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to transition. What limited your ability to perform faster: No much.. perhaps some more run training. Event comments: Weather was great this year... not too hot as some prior years have been. I think there was a change in event management but no material changes noticed. Which they would report age group rank in each category (see Set-up Events) but it was a fun and well run race. Last updated: 2012-04-19 12:00 AM

My 3 year old had a restless night. He woke up at 5:00am crying again, so I put him back to sleep then stayed up and got ready. Had most of an egg and cheese sandwich then got to the start about 6:10 to rack bike.
Reverse tri. Started with a short 10 min run with a few accels. Biked for about 10 mins then swam about 500 yards. Normally don't do warm-up but I think this helped.
