Pre-race routine:

Arrived to the event at 6:00am. Set up bike and run gear.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warmup. Did a mile run and stretched. Meeting @ 7:00, put on wetsuit and walked to the beach. The walk is on a sand trail of which the sand is deep. Got to the beach and walked a mile with my wife to the start.
Swim
  • 26m 52s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was probably one of my best swims; it was my first ocean swim. Mass run start. Started strong and felt comfortable the entire time. Focused on breathing; felt relaxed. Both current and wetsuit made a difference.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Well, maybe try to catch a wave next time coming in,
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Average transition considering this was the second race I've used my wetsuit. It's about a minute to 1:30 run from the beach to T1 along a sand trail. Bring a water bottle to wash your feet.
What would you do differently?:

Would not have racked my bike at the end of the rack.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 31s
  • 27.96 miles
  • 24.48 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Taken at least one gel.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Couldn't find my rack...and couldn't remember landmarks.
What would you do differently?:

Done a better job of remembering where my rack was.
Run
  • 45m 28s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good coming off the bike until I hit the sand for the first mile. Then settled in. Plenty of water and Gatorade available. Slowed up a bit at mile 4, which i had been doing in my training, but turned it on the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

Put socks on. My feet started to slide in my shoes towards the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water.

Event comments:

Fun race. Weather was perfect. Lots of volunteers. Had a good time. Will try it again next year.
