Swim
Comments: The water was freezing! It took my breath away. Water was also very murky. What would you do differently?: Practice in cold, open water Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice -- which I didn't do. Bike
Comments: My training prior to the race was a bi-weekly spin class which mixes in hills and speed. Spin class is no substitute for real/group rides, but I felt great during and after. The course is nice rolling hills and the traffic was minimal. There were police at every intersection which helped! What would you do differently?: Practice getting in and out of the clips. This was my 2nd time using them and It cost me a few minutes to get into them. I'd also push myself harder. I went slow/easy because I didn't want to burn out my legs for the run. Transition 2
Run
Comments: There were some hills and it was mostly all on the sidewalk or on the walk/bike path. What would you do differently?: Hill training during brick workouts Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold water water was very unexpected and it killed my swim and T1 times. Event comments: This was my 2nd triathlon ever so I made plenty of mistakes. I also had a 3-week hiatus from training which really hurt me. The staff and volunteers were all very helpful and friendly. It was a good first race of the year. Next time I'll be more prepared for cold water~ Last updated: 2012-04-30 12:00 AM
