Swim
Comments: The swim went great. It was 2 minutes faster than any training swim I had at this distance. I was relaxed once I hit the water. My siting was good, and I was even able to draft a little bit. I felt fresh the whole time. I couldn't believe that my best event was the one I was worried about the most. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: My heart rate strap popped off, I couldn't find my shoes, and everything was moving in slow motion. I did this Olympic to practice these sort of things, and I learned a lot. Move on!! What would you do differently?: Move faster, be more organized Bike
Comments: The bike felt pretty good. I felt like I pushed just the right amount. I was in the aero position most of the time. The 2 hills at the end really hammered at me, but I didn't do a lot of hill work. I ate 1/2 a power bar every 20 minutes, and I had to remind myself to do it. I drank 48 ounces on the bike. I tried to focus on spinning in higher gears as much as I could What would you do differently?: I wouldn't change too much. For my fitness level, I think I was right on. Transition 2
Comments: My better transition. My time was more in the middle of the field than at the bottom. I guess I could have ran faster to pick up a few seconds. Run
Comments: I checked my heart rate with my finger on the watch, and it was usually in the high 150s. My pace was a lot slower than I was hoping, but maybe I was being unrealistic. I did run the 2nd half as fast as the first, and never slowed down or walked. I just didn't run very fast the whole time, but I gave a good effort. What would you do differently?: I need to get a better running base. The long runs are good, but I need to add something during the week, and practice longer bricks. Post race
Warm down: I walked around a little bit, put my stuff in the car, then got a ten minute stretch in. The off to home with a 2.5 hour drive What limited your ability to perform faster: Running fitness Event comments: HFP racing did I nice job with the race. I was nervous, and they put my worries to rest. Lots of pre race announcements, lots of volunteers, and the online information was accurate. Great race. Last updated: 2012-05-07 12:00 AM

I drove down the night before to Chillicothe to stay with the in laws, a 3 hour drive. I got 6 hours of sleep, and woke up at 4:50. I slept surprisingly well. I got a shower, ate a power bar harvest bar, and drove the 30 minutes to Deer Creek State Park. I drank about 45 ounces of water before the race.
I got my stuff set up in transition, then did a lot of walking around; back to the car, check out the swim area, and looking at some displays. I did go in the water a couple of minutes before the race, but that was just to pee.
