Pre-race routine:

Got up 3 hours prior to race, had an ensure for breakfast, downed a G2 for hydration and drove to race site. arrived 1 hour prior and ate half an energy bar.
Event warmup:

Walk from transition to Swim start, no real warmup

Swim
  • 16m 59s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

The wind was blowing well and was causing some waves and a current against us on the longest part of the swim. It slowed me down a bit, but overall, only about 1 minutes. But we were all in the same boat .. so to speak.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, I did not push myself, I merely went out and tried to find a rythm early and just swim steady the entire way, which I did.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

For the second race in a row, I missed my rack, last week I was dizzy from a rough swim, but not the case this week, just missed it, and lost about 20 seconds. Decided at the last second to not were my riding gloves, so once shoes, helmet and glasses on, I was off. Felt pretty good overall.
What would you do differently?:

Really pay attention and practice running into transition and finding my rack.
Bike
  • 55m 10s
  • 30 kms
  • 32.63 km/hr
Comments:

The course was nice and relatively flat, with some rough roads, but nothing too difficult. It was slick as it had rained prior to the race and began raining about the last 10km. It was the headwind that really made it interesting and we had some decent cross breeze as well. But it then helped on the way back and I had my best 30km race time this year to date, so really cannot complain.
What would you do differently?:

NOthing, I used the right gears, had the right speed around the corners and managed all very well. And an added bonus, I managed my energy so well that I had plenty in the tank for a good run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Great transition, found my rack this time, had plenty of room as I most of my rack had not got back yet, switched shoes, took off helmet and glasses and left.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, all went well
Run
  • 38m 29s
  • 7.5 kms
  • 05m 08s  min/km
Comments:

My best run off the bike so far. I felt no brick legs, I was able to get into a great pace of aroun 4:33/km for the first few km's and then settled in to a slightly slower pace, but my best overall run. I still am carrying an extra 20+ lbs, so once that is off I will be able to fly, but for now, I am really pleased with this run
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

As my wife participated as well, I walked out to about the 2km and ran the rest of the way in with her, great way to keep from stiffening up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the rain, and wind, but other than that, nothing.

Event comments:

Because I have issues with my knee's the changing terrain and uneven footing was a concern for me, althogh did not play a factor, half the run course was akin to participating in an exterra event. More road surface would be better.
