Swim
Comments: even though swim all same direction still not relaxing as cautious of people I am catching. Started 112 finsihed 103 so pretty accurate seeding. What would you do differently?: Need to focus more on swimming/breathing and not worrying about who is around me. Transition 1
Comments: all the practice pays off - 49/420!! On a race this scale, I see no need to have shoes already clipped onto bike. I decided to go sockless and used body glide which really helped, pull loop on back of new shoes excellent idea and did everything standing up! Positioned crank so right pedal forward so quick getaway. What would you do differently?: Nothing - the risk/reward for attaching shoes and run/jump start doesn't pay off. Bike
Comments: WHAT AN AWESOME RIDE! This was first time on raod bike and I grinned and whooped all the way round! everything went near perfect - high cadence at start then push hard rest of way, HR 150 - 160, accelerate up hills and down, drinking, passing lots, lost count at 20; only two passed me - oh, and did I mention the avg speed - 19.7!!! What would you do differently?: more practice to build strength, once comfotable push harder and lower cadence to 85/95 range. Transition 2
Comments: again near perfect, practice helped. First time I tried riding with feet on shoes - execute brilliantly and felt safe and still able to pedal hard to dismount. Stop and dismout not jump. Again used body glide and standing shoe change. What would you do differently?: nothing - risk/reward again not worth it. Run
Comments: PR for 5K but again felt horrible all the way - I have to rely on garmin pace to show I am actually running!! Chest/stomach/abs again feel 'tense' and had to remove HR strap and unzip jersey to feel 'free'. Started at 9:00 pace and dropped to 8:00 by end. This time remembered to sprint hard last half mile and saw my pace drop below 8:00. What would you do differently?: Defintely need to practice running to improve time and fitness. Also figure out what going on with core/chest area. In hindsight I have started to neglect speed work instead focusing on long slow runs. Also mentally think positive mantra's like on bike. Post race
Warm down: cheering, hugs and high fives to my new tri-family. water/gatoraid, fruit, bread, fried chicken burger (well we are in the south!), some stretching, but generally hanging out and enjoying hte day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Relaxing in swim and getting into a rhythm; 'tension' on the run. Event comments: This is a well run and fast event - not ocean flat but near perfect. Need to race ahrd again to achieve this level of result! Last updated: 2012-05-21 12:00 AM
