Swim
Comments: I'm slow. Not much else to say about that, except last year this was my first tri ever and it took me 13:04. The weeds were incredibly thick. After rounding the turn I swam into a mat of them and it freaked me out a little. I stopped to get them off. This lake is so small there was quite a lot of thumping. That part I'm now comfortable with, but I still don't like dirty lakes! What would you do differently?: I'd have started swimming as a kid! The weeds messed me up a little mentally, but I doubt it had that great an impact on my time. So given where my ability is right now, this was a decent swim. Transition 1
Comments: My wetsuit zipper got stuck! Our club trisuits were misprinted and have the zipper on the back, so they added a string to help get them on and off. And it caught in the wetsuit zipper and I couldn't get it unstuck. Luckily someone was able to help me and I didn't get penalized. Otherwise I would have had to DNF, that sucker was seriously stuck! What would you do differently?: Take the string off and let someone zip me up until the replacement suits arrive. The rest of transition went very well, and this is something I've been working on. You just can't account for everything, so I rate this as average. Bike
Comments: After the wetsuit debacle it felt great to be on the bike. I had a new fitter adjust the bike last week and this was the first race since then. Seems like he did a good job, it all felt good. What would you do differently?: Nothing, happy with the bile leg. Transition 2
Comments: Been working on transitions so it was better than last time. What would you do differently?: Remember the Garmin. Run
Comments: I really felt the humidity and heat coming out of T2 and it took me a while to settle into a decent pace. I wasn't the only one, the guy in front of me grabbed two cups of water from a volunteer and poured them on his head. I did the same and it helped. Back half of the run was fine and I passed one guy in my AG near the end, which is all that really matters! What would you do differently?: I need to run more in the heat to get acclimated. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit more, drank some water. Was not hungry at all. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim skills, weeds, zippers, and heat. Otherwise I am pretty happy. This was my 5th triathlon and the second time I did this one. Last year it took me 1:23, this year 1:10. Next year?? Event comments: I think they had a tough time with getting volunteers because of the holiday weekend. But this remains one of the friendliest races around, and I had a great time. Smaller races are fun. Last updated: 2012-05-27 12:00 AM

Got up early to beat shore traffic, loaded the bike on the car, grabbed a bagel and coffee and ate on the way there.
Just some walking around and talking to people.
