Swim
Comments: Seeded myself in the middle probably three back from the front. Start of the race I ran until there was enough room try and swim with what felt like the octopus. The first 100 seemed really slow and frustrating kept running into people and that sort of thing. After making the turn was able to find some open water to the outside and just swim past the second bouy and on to the third. Once I rounded the third bouy it was on to the beach the crowd never really thinned out and I had to join back in with octopus. Made the beach and the timer said that we were about 1 minute back from the leader. It is safe to say that the swim is probably my strongest event. Though my heart rate was high I never really felt like I was pushing, I just couldn't ever get into a rythm. I have been sighting in the pool and it paid off, my sight stroke is solid and though I never had the chance to swim off course I always knew where I was. What would you do differently?: I pressed pretty hard on the swim, not really my plan but I had a good effort. I think I need to put myself to the side and attempt to stay a bit more relaxed. I wonder where my heart rate would have been if I would have swam 30 sec slower. Had a goal time and blew it away so I am not sure how fast I am swimming these days, my pool is a 25 meter pool (I think) I figured that I would have been doing good with 7 minutes, so maybe this was the beginning of the end. Transition 1
Comments: Good Tranistion, just started using the flying mount with shoes on the pedals. What would you do differently?: Can't say I would do much different work on getting into shoes faster. Bike
Comments: Got feet in my shoes after transition and starting hitting it. I had my computer set so that I could only see cadence and distance, so I did not know how fast or slow I was going. Once I got on the main road I passed a few of the women that had started in the wave in front of the men, but there was a steady stream of men flying by me. One guy was nice enough to ask "how's it goin'" as he passed, I turned my head to see him and looked back to where I was going just in time to realize that I had drifted into the gravel near the edge of the road. I made a quick correction and found my bike sliding out from under me and landing squarely on my hip and shoulder. After a quick curse I was back on the bike going considerably faster than before the accident. My heart rate had been high before the accident and it wasn't coming down now. I made the turn without event and headed for home. Passed a few more of the women got passed by some more men. Pulled into the dismount area pretty spent got out of shoes and headed into transition. What would you do differently?: Does not crashing count as something I would like to do differently? I seriously need to work on the bike, I feel like I give up so much time on the bike, that coupled with a very sore hip and achilies that has been acting up are forcing me into a 3 week bike focus. Goal time was 38:00 Transition 2
Comments: Did it all well on paper, I think if I didn't wear socks I could cut 20 more seconds off my time, but T1/2 are actually my strongest events so I should probably focus on saving minutes rather than seconds. What would you do differently?: I did briefly head toward the wrong exit, but solved the problem before it became a problem Run
Comments: My achillies was stiff coming out of T2 and my calves were cramping up pretty good. After about a quarter mile legs felt better and was able to run, unfortunately there was nothing left, I had been running the engine pretty high and I just didn't have much kick. What would you do differently?: I had only done one brick so, I can't really complain about how my legs felt. My legs had no pop after the bike, I think this is what is called muscular endurance and I probably need to work on it. In March I ran something like 1 minute faster per mile for 5 miles, I hope this doesn't mean that I have lost fitness. More of a bike problem than a run problem. Goal time 23:30 Post race
Warm down: Walked around thought I might heave didn't, had a couple beers. What limited your ability to perform faster: BIKE ENDURANCE, I need to get off the bike feeling much better. I missed my goal time by over 3 minutes, this was a C priority race so I am not all that upset over how it went. The need for a better bike performance was prominently displayed today. I have alway been very strong in my legs Event comments: We'll be back they give out trophies and it is hard to argue with putting hardware on the shelves. Last updated: 2006-05-22 12:00 AM

Got to site set up transition and got marked. Headed out for about a 15 min easy run. Stood around a bit and put on wetsuit. Down to the water for about a 200m warmup water was a bit chilly.
