Overall Rank = 73/184
Age Group = m35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/23
Pre-race routine:

I have done the race a few times so I knew exactly how long it took to drive there (82 minutes) , where to park , where to pick up the packet, where to get marked and get timing chip, where to rack and where to poop. Unfortunately the parking changed, the transition changed and they closed transition 30 minutes early. This jacked my routine up. Didnt have any calories since the apple and granola bar in the car on the way over
Event warmup:

well they closed tranition at 730 and my wave went off at 830. Swam a little bit but didnt do much else except sip on water.
Swim
  • 27m 57s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought the swim went ok for my level of training. I am suprised on how slow it was. Overall times were not that impressive for the swim for all levels. It was probably the roughest swim as far as contact goes the whole race.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much although additional training might have helped. This was the first swim in a sleeveless. My shoulders and arms didnt get tired like they do in the other suit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

no issues except somehow my helmet glasses and shirt were all on the ground when I arrived in t2 (they were in my aerobars when I left to swim). my goggles somehow got hooked on my pedal and I had to stop and get them off leaving t1 - I threw them to the fence but never found them post race :(
Bike
  • 1h 15m 4s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Well I didnt expect much given my training on the bike this year. However I am suprised given what the speedometer was saying. I got passed a passel of folks at mile 4 and another passel at mile 20. Other than that just some lonley riding. I started to get hungry but I didnt have any food so not much I could do ( bad planning on my part ). For my second longest outdoor ride this year I guess it was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Bring nutrition for the bike - probably impacted the bike and really affected the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

didnt try a flying dismount because I hadnt practiced it recently
What would you do differently?:

would have been nice to have some sort of nutrition
Run
  • 50m 8s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

sad.pathetic.disappointing - The run has always been a happy spot for me. Normally I feel strong coming out of T2 and have to make an effort to slow down so as not to burn out. I didnt have that problem this time. I felt out of sorts from the first step. I was really hungry at this point. I just didnt have it. I ran until mile 4 , walked the aid station, ran to mile 5, walked the aid station and then ran in. Just a really bad run all over.
What would you do differently?:

#1 calories
#2 I am really understanding that bike fitness allows run fitness to shine through. I am still way under trained on the bike which blocks any chance of bringing 7:15min/mile pace to game. I just need more time pedaling away so I can get back to eating people on the run
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of nutrition - poor cycling fitness

Event comments:

HFP runs a race called "girls tri too". Previous to this year it was held on the Saturday preceeding so first time women are not intimidated/grossed out by so many spandex dudes (I agree). This year they stacked a this race on top of a Spint and Olympic race. They had the new race preceed the race which moved transition clearing time up, made transition extra crowded and generally confused the majority of the race participants. Not a good call

Post race food options were very limited. I was to pick from orange slices, chips and pretzels and warm well water. No cold pop, sports drinks or solid food. They were selling those items this year. Funny thing is I DONT CARRY CASH in my trishorts. If you saved cash by combining the races dont cut even more on the food.

DavidTris is a punk for his no show with the whiskey prerace. I blame my performance on him.

This race was a great ego smothering opening to the season. Plenty to work on. This is almost 10 minures slower than my OLY PR (and that was a non wetsuit swim).
