Swim
  • 41m 16s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

For this first .5 leg I felt very nervous, borderline scared. At one point I wanted to do a side stroke jsut to keep my head above water. I kept plugging away until I got some room to swim alone, then I was comfortable. The leg that returned to the beach I felt great trying to sight breathe every 10-10 breaths.
Transition 1
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

There was a long run to the transistion, I moved quickly removing and putting stuff on. The water backpack added time. I already had the shoes clipped on, there was a group of people that prevented me from jumping on the bike and going.
What would you do differently?:

No water backpack

Comments:

The racks were very tighly packed and I had a difficult time getting my bike back on the rack.
What would you do differently?:

No water backpack
Run
  • 2h 10m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt relatively strong, I probably could have pushed a little harder, but I didn't know if a wall was coming. Keeping my body cool was the most difficult part of the run. I used several wet sponges and poured ice down the back of my shirt to keep cool, this helped dramatically. I think that I needed to have more electrolytes in my system as I stopped to go to the bathroom three times on the run. I had no knee or ankle pains, just some blisters from my socks not being on correct.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder.

Event comments:

the race organizers need to do a better job of getting athletes to the transition area separate from the spectators. There should be two lines for busses; one for athletes and one for spectators. They also need a way to get busses out earlier after the race. Running out of cups and sponges at the aid stations was unacceptable, but at least the aid stations were very frequent. The aid stations on the bike were flawlessly executed.
