Total Time = 6h 40m 58s
Overall Rank = 1432/1937
Age Group = W40-44
Age Group Rank = 63/94
Pre-race routine:

didn't sleep well. Set alarm for 4am to eat PB&J and take 2 endurolytes with water. Got dressed and headed over to transition.
Event warmup:

Talking to Marcy (Dodgersmom)! Heart rate naturally went up due to anxiety.
Swim
  • 48m 18s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was terrified to swim without a wetsuit. Got into a pace, then got pummelled by the male waves behind ours. I was kicked & punched in the nose. Held on to a kayak for at least a minute to catch my breathe. Since I went into the swim just to survive it, I did well.
What would you do differently?:

More swim time
Transition 1
  • 06m 55s
Comments:

Bike was racked far from bike out, and I was still recovering from my swim experience. But in all did well considering I had to take more endurolytes and put on sunscreen.
Bike
  • 3h 13m 24s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Silly me to decide to take it easy on the bike and save my legs for the run. HA! But I got comfortable and enjoyed this part of the race. Had a lot of fun for at least 3 hours!
What would you do differently?:

Need better cornering & u-turn skills. Not hold back so much.
Transition 2
  • 04m 34s
Comments:

More endurolytes, more sunscreen. Race belt broke so spent time fixing that.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 27m 49s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I can't even comment. The race directors should be ashamed of themselves for planning this run course. People were pretty miserable. Big suffer-fest. But, I was pleased I kept plugging along.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water.
Post race
Warm down:

Bottle of recoverite, ice bags on legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Missed training, the heat was a huge factor

Event comments:

The two areas I think the race directors failed at were the swim waves (putting young men right behind the W40-44 was tough) and the run course. I'm sure they were limited due to DisneyWorld venue, but the run really was horrible.
