  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim went better than expected, seeing as this was my first open water swim, i was pretty nervous about the swim. settled in to a good stroke after the first 200-300 yards and the rest of the swim was very comfortable (and faster then my goal swim time of 35 mins). the wetsuit i bought was awesome, very comfortable and fast!
What would you do differently?:

Transition 1
  • 04m 4s
Comments:

uneventful, took my time, rain started to come down pretty good by then, so keeping shoes dry etc was a moot point.

Comments:

i had heard there were alot of hills on this bike course and they werent kidding. it rained pretty solid the entire bike course. twice during the first 5 miles my chain fell off when i tried to go to the lowest gear for hills so i ended up riding the rest of the race in a harder gear which hurt a bit. even though it was raining, tried to push it as hard as i could on the down hills to get momomentum for the upcoming hills. hit 45.1 mph at one point, good thing i didnt have to brake!
What would you do differently?:

train more for the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

wet bike shoes and socks off, wet running shoes on (didnt run with socks, they were like lead weights)
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 52m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

flat to down hill first 1-2 miles than a tough fairly long uphill around mile 3. farly wooded, light rain. one last steep hill around mile 5 or so that hurt. passed a lot of people on the run, wanted to break 50 mins but that last hill killed me.
What would you do differently?:

more brics
Post race
Warm down:

water and then beer!!!!!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

rain on bike

Event comments:

overall a great first triathlon experience. event seemed pretty well organized, especially given the weather. tough, challenging course. goal was to break 3 hours but a couple bike malfunctions, rain, and that last short steep hill on the run made me come up a bit short. very satisfied overall with performance, look forward to the next one.
