Swim
Comments: Position myself I though on the outside, but we got closer to start and athletes started to move around found myself towards middle but up front. Got off to a good start and tried to maintain my position. Did not even see passing the first bouy, as it was crowded and I more less just followed the pack. Started falling back heading towards second bouy. Race started falling apart here..just could not maintain a steady stroke. What would you do differently?: Swim is holding me back from being overall competitive. I am solid in bike and run. More practice, practice, practice. Giving up 3-5 min to field. Transition 1
Comments: Transition from swim to bike requires running up a hill. I tried to force myself to stay in a trot, and keep everything moving. Got to bike rack and smoothly put on equipment and headed out for ride. Could be faster but was happy with time. What would you do differently?: Watch others and see how they are saving more time. Bike
Comments: Rode course the week before so knew the first part of the course is the toughest as you are on a slight inclince into the wind. Rode this hard knowing the return trip would be easier. The bike path was basically a one lane of road with the return on the other lane of road. Course was crowded but several times had to go into return lane to get around slower riders. Had to be careful and watchful of other riders. What would you do differently?: Was happy with overall time and effort. Transition 2
Comments: Got to bike rack and change to running shoes and headed off. Legs felt ok...was stretching calfs out on bike before getting off bike. Run
Comments: Tried to keep a steady run pace. Tried to keeps legs moving on downhills and a steady pace on the uphills. My run has improved in every tri I have done. What would you do differently?: Only passed a couple people in my age group on the run..the others were several minutes ahead of me, if I had a quicker swim would be able to be more in contact with the next group of runners ahead of me. Post race
Warm down: Got some fluid, the ice sponge felt good and kept moving around. Went to end of run and cheered on others. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim will always be my weakest event and chances of overall improvement or better age group ranking will not occur until I can improve my swim. I should have worn a wet suit since the water temp below 78, but 90% of others did not so I didnt. Event comments: Will try to do the Tinman as one of my regular tri events. Got up at 4:15 had typical breakfast, ceral, fruit, bagel and coffee. Felt a tight hammie so put on a hot rub. Headed for race and arrived about 6:15.
Arrived earlier enough so I was able to check-in, get timing chip and went for a short bike ride. After bike ride, layout t1 and headed out for short warm up run. Stretch and got t2 layed out. Went to swim start and headed for a swim and picked a spot to rest until start. Drank pleny of water and eat part of a cliff bar.
