  • Comments: This turned out to be a decent race. This is only my second season so my comparisons are limited. The pre-race communications (days leading up to and day of race) were extremely poor. There was no real pre-race instructions regarding course, transition area or anything. Again though, as more of a beginner, once the race began I enjoyed the course and the course was fairly easy to navigate so overall a pretty decent experience in the end.

  • Comments: Silverback did fine (although there were bikers on the bike course WITHOUT HELMETS which should not happen...), and the whole debacle with the police. I'm sure that happens more often than I think. This race just missed something this year. Very ho hum, start the race, finish the race, had a piece of pizza, grabbed an award and left. No announcers, no hype at all. If this was my first triathlon, I'd be very turned off. Hope they address it next year...

  • Comments: The venue was awesome, but execution left a little to be desired. No announcer or any guidance about the course. First timers were left hanging in the wind as to logistics (race numbers, mount/dismount lines, transition flow, etc.). Check-in was smooth, but they simply handed you your number and you were on your own after that picking up the details by context clues.

  • Comments: This was my second time at the Tinman, but the 33rd overall race. They did great and everything was on time and organized, other than the awards ceremony that was a bit late. Also, just pizza to eat after (no fruit or sports drinks). I will definitely be back as this race as its my hometown race and my family comes! Ultramax does great races!

  • Comments: I really like this race org group, but there were a lot of hiccups that were mostly out of their hands, namely the weather. As mentioned pre-race, the winds completely destroyed their finish line set up. By the time people began showing up for the race many of the volunteers were scattered around trying to pick things up and get back into order. This however left areas like packet and chip pickup, and body marking undermanned. Again, not their fault. Race results and awards weren't delivered in a very timely manner today, but I've seen them nail this down well in the past, so I'll give them a pass. Outstanding communication during the race, which I think was helpful for any beginners out there.

  • Comments: very well run event, the course got blasted by the storm and they put it back together and got the event going on time, well done. Liked the transition area layout much better than previous Tinmen events.

  • Comments: I felt like they could have used more volunteers, but everything was great. there was some severe weather in the area during the night that destroyed the site, but they did a good job of getting everything back together.

  • Comments: This was my 1st triathlon, but it was fun and makes me want to do another one. This gives me a good base line to see what I need to work on (everything), and the confidence that I can definitely do it.

  • Comments: This race had a few hiccups along the way, but it's too be expected for an organization running the Tinman for the first time. In fact, they acknowledged some issues (transitions racks and course lengths) but they should have things cleared up come next year. The actual race went well, plenty of volunteers and support. Ultramax does a good job with their events. I talked with my uncle after the race, who works on the Shawnee County P&R board, and he said that so far they've been happy with what they've put together in comparison to KLM. A lot of first timers at this event too. When asked, I think at least 80% of the F29&U wave raised their hands saying it was their first tri race.

  • Comments: The course was on the opposite side of the lake this year. The location provided the RD with some challenges. I would suggest that the original location but used for next year. There was not enough bike racks for age groups. My age group was over filled and the racks failed. Had to find a new spot. Took too long to get fixed. The after race activities were great.

  • Comments: I would rate my own race different than KLM's job on this race. It's a great course. A great triathlon to start the year and a great tri for beginners. But, KLM disappointed me again. For the cost of the triathlon, we got a very inexpensive cotton tshirt, a swim cap and a gu. Even the race bib was plain...they didn't have them printed with the Tinman logo which would not have been a huge expense at all. They do not allow any local businesses to participate which is unbelievable. And when they don't even understand and follow USAT rules, well, that is just unacceptable for a triathlon that is USAT sanctioned.
