Swim
Comments: My goal for the swim was 20 minutes. Started on the outside right and back to stay out of the thick of things. Learned that women can be VICIOUS in the water. Some are pretty clueless. One wore sandals for some reason, and those kicks hurt! Hard to get a rhythm, because people would freestyle a few strokes and then switch to breaststroke and start going very slowly, or they would just turn and swim across me for no apparent reason. I'd just have to wait for them at times. What would you do differently?: Choose a better starting position. Learn to draft off of people instead of trying to avoid them. Transition 1
Comments: Uphill run to TA included in transition time, and a decent run to the bike mount line. Wasn't really used to running post-swim and found out that my legs get tired in my wetsuit. Took the wrong exit for the bike start. What would you do differently?: See above. Also learn how to mount bike with shoes on pedals, it seems safer than running in the shoes. Bike
Comments: My speed sensor is broken, so I had to wing it. Really really wanted to average over 18mph on this bike. And I didn't. What would you do differently?: Ride more! Learn to use my aerobars instead of just treating them as an expensive helmet holder. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot my race belt. Realized right away but didn't go back for it. What would you do differently?: See above Run
Comments: The run is my worst event. I got passed and passed some more. My goal for the run was 28 minutes. So I did beat that, and I definitely gave it my all. Steve came to meet me for the last bit and ran for a few seconds with me, which rocked. What would you do differently?: I am still working on it. It will happen! This is the first run I've done in a race where could honestly say that I gave it my all, so that's good enough for now. Post race
Warm down: Drank stuff, went in the ocean to cool off. Waited for Steve to get his award because he's awesome this year. What limited your ability to perform faster: My inability to be fast. Working on it! Event comments: Could have been a little more organized beforehand, and the volunteers were just OK. They did a nice job of traffic control and police presence. Good T-shirts. Bagel w/pbj, coffee, gatorade. Then I rolled my ankle in typical Danielle fashion while going down the stairs. That made me super nervous. It hurt until the race start and then again during the beginning of the run.
Nada.
