Swim
Comments: Plan was to take it easy as if doing a very long run and executed to perfection. Could maybe have gone a tad bit faster but swam pretty straight and zero issues other than slowing up an extra bit on turns. Very happy with first 1M (vs .5M) triathlon swim. What would you do differently?: More training in pool thru winter to get fast at distance Transition 1
Comments: Tough transition up a long dirt path with lots of rocks, roots and spectators to dodge. Did ok but legs were cramping towards end, next time take wetsuit off right out of water. What would you do differently?: Wetsuit off immediately, bring better shoes (ran in sandals). Bike
Comments: Had some squeaking on new Cervelo esp on hills, need to get rear wheel reset. Definitely did 2nd lap faster than first as I wasn't sure how much I could push myself having never done over 15M in a race. What would you do differently?: Getting a new race helmet to replace 18yr old current lid. Practicing maintaing high cadence and speed. Not bad for early in year and times held up vs my old thick tired bike on Sprint Triathlons, but feel like there is more speed to be gained from new bike. Transition 2
Comments: Sandy end to bike route so chose to slow down almost to a stop. Took my time more than typical and even paused for one big gulp of Gatorade before heading out on run. What would you do differently?: Ate a small bar at end of bike, do a little bit sooner so have time to wash it down. Run
Comments: Started out conservatively and was very surprised to see all the up, then down then up then down hills on course. Only flat was miles 2.5-4 and unfortunately a cramp in my lower right quad just above knee started at mile 3 as picking up cadence with flats. Had to slow down but successully fought off severe cramps rest of way. What would you do differently?: Drink some early in race, train more for hills and get training in at over 2hrs of exercising. Post race
Warm down: Walked back and forth in shade What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps, possible bike issue, not able to train for 2+hrs of exertion. Event comments: Great course especially bike, now that they moved this to mid-June a much better race. Last updated: 2012-06-27 12:00 AM

5:30 Wakeup, coffee & breakfast of oatmeal with peanut butter. Short 20 minute ride to race, arrived exactly at 6:30 and was among earlier arrivals for 8AM race.
Walked wayyyyy down to swim, then jogged back up hill - 4 minutes! Otherwise stretched, a short bike ride might have been good.
