Swim
Comments: This was only my second tri and my first open water. I was a little concerned about the open water but had gone out to local lake several times in preparation for open water. That helped significantly. What would you do differently?: Can't complain for mor this being my first oepn water swim! Transition 1
Comments: Long run from dock to transition area on pavement-perhaps 300 yards or so. Strippers at dock got my wetsuit right off so ran with my wetsuit to T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing in particular. Bike
Comments: I had a fair number pass me on the hill though I passed a few who walked. Despite slow pace I felt ok about it given hills etc. What would you do differently?: More hill work in preparation Transition 2
Comments: Ok, I probably would slow T2 down just abit, or build my endurance more. I had some gel with water just before finishing my bike, that didn't settle real well with me. I wonder if just a minute of walking in T2 would have given me a second wind for the run. What would you do differently?: Skip the gel or take it earlier in bike. Make sure my feet are ready to run before taking off out of T2 Run
Comments: This was tough for me! Pace was about 2 12 minutes/mile slower than what I thought I would be able to do. I don't know if it was just race fatigue, conditions, poor nutrition on race etc. Half way through run I was asking..."Why do I do this?" What would you do differently?: I'm not sure where my weakness was so it is hard to say what to do differently. Again about a half mile into the race I felt like I maybe would have done better to have taken just a minute more in T2 to gather myself mentally and physically for the run. Post race
Warm down: I got real sick after the race finished! DIZZY! I just couldn't stand up. At one point I was sitting 10 feet from the table where oranges etc were available and I couldn't even get up from my chair to get to the table. After ten minutes or so I got some sugar in me and perked up quickly. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm just slow! Run was really the limiting factor in my time! Event comments: This was realy a fun race, (notice I am writing this nearly two weeks after the race). Bad memories quickly fade. Tragedy on the swim, please see link-http://www.christophereborn.com. Definitely hooked! Last updated: 2006-05-25 12:00 AM

The night before the race I drove out to the sight. Having heard about the bike hill I wanted to see it for myself. Perhaps I shouldn't have..Steady 8% grade for 3/4 mile or so worried me abit. Nevertheless I am compulsive enough that I like to see the course before I race. Dinner the night before-Red Lobster linguini..a little too heavy!
Stood around for longer than I would like waiting for waves to start etc. Short jog, brief swim just to get used to water.
