Overcast
Total Time = 1h 17m 58s
Overall Rank = 68/612
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/46
Pre-race routine:

Light swim warm up. Peanut butter toast, coffee, stinger waffle and sip of perform. Shoes off bike, decided to run without socks.
Event warmup:

Light swim warm up. Maybe too light.
Swim
  • 11m 38s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Age Group rank by men 40-44, overall includes all non-team racers, men and women.
What would you do differently?:

Relax more. Slow cadence after initial 200m.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Had a hard time getting into my shoes (buckles) and decided to go sockless at this moment. Struggled to get into my clips, duh! Felt way slower than the 2:15 I posted.
What would you do differently?:

Tri shoes. Practice with cold hands.
Bike
  • 34m 21s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.96 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Spin more at the beginning to get my legs warmed up. Longer straw for my water bottle. Smaller tool pouch for this distance. Lower bar set to help with aero and crosswinds.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

clipped out of and ran with bike shoes on. No opportunity to hop off bike gracefully as the dismount areas was a little crowded and I don't feel that comfortable getting closer than needed. This was way faster than it felt.
What would you do differently?:

With tri shoes, I could have hopped out of the shoes and ran barefooted into transition. This would have sped up my transition by 15-20 seconds running and removing the shoes.
Run
  • 28m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Went sockless. OOPPS! Considering my running training, IT Band, blisters and steep descent, I'm very happy with my run. Set a 5k PR.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training, this is by far my weakness.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around the booths and took it easy. Drank coconut water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience. Don't even really know what to enter here.

Event comments:

My only real complaint with this race is the location and time of the packet pickup. It is a PIA to get to downtown Seattle in heavy traffic.
