Swim
Comments: Course was short - I am guessing it was 300-350 yds... As for the swim, I haven't OWS'ed in almost two years and haven't swam a ton this summer, but I still felt good about it going in. Positioned myself towards the back and outside. apparently I was fast and on track, because I found myself right in the middle of the cauldron coming around the first buoy... it was the ugly part of the cauldron too, where people were breaking into breast stroke regularly... definitely held me up. Rounded the second buoy and it opened up and I swam nice and strong and straight into the beach... What would you do differently?: Position to the middle and outside and swim! Overall I am happy about how it went! Transition 1
Comments: Long run from beach to transition... actually I was near the top of my AG. I need to work on moving faster back and forth to the racks.... Bike
Comments: Took a bit to get my legs working. I have found that lately it takes me several miles to get the legs turning over well... hmmm... I was riding strong, but not hard. Need to work on race pacing - I was riding at touring speed - probably subconsciously was holding back for the run (despite my best self-advice). Probably could have ridden another 40 miles at the pace I was at... this is where electronics would have helped... What would you do differently?: More training for intervals and speed. Transition 2
Comments: Once again, one of the top transition times... Apparently I ain't got much SBR game, but I transition like a mutha'... What would you do differently?: just move faster... Run
Comments: bad, bad, bad... not surprising as I have not been training much... I just did a run walk to get through it... the ice water towels were very welcome... it wasn't particularly hot, but it was humid.... What would you do differently?: run Post race
Warm down: tried to breath... What limited your ability to perform faster: cv fitness, muscular endurance... Event comments: DA put on an awesome race... only complaint was it started late, but there was still a line of cars when the oly waves were supposed to be going off... English muffins and bagel. got there way too early - I was following the guide as to time, but I was so early, I was first on the rack! Had some coffee and then proceeded to wait. No electronics for the race - no GPS, no HRM, not even a watch with a timer... (in retrospect, I probably need some of that stuff as I start up the season after a layoff)
Slowly jogged a half mile or so, got in the water and did some easy swimming. Unfortunately it was a long wait (over an hour) until my wave went off...
