Swim
Comments: Started in the front and somewhat inside. Definately a lot of banging and jockeying for positiong for the first 200 yards. Unfortunately my upper right lat muscle cramped up around the half way point. became pretty painfal as I headed towards the 2nd bouy. After rounding that bouy I did a few backstroke strokes and this helped to loosen it up. I was then able to hammer at a strong pace for the last 250yds. What would you do differently?: This cramp has hit me in previous races (never in the pool!) so got to figure out a way to avoid it. Maybe a longer swim warm-up. Also, head out to the far right bouy for the warm-up. The water is much cleaner. Before the race everyone enters the water to head out to the first (left) bouy which kicks up all of the pond muck in that part of the pond. The water was like soup. Transition 1
Comments: Got out of the water pretty winded but overall a pretty quick transition. Didn't bother with the bike gloves. transition time included in bike time but probably about 2:15 or so. Bike
Comments: Bike felt pretty good. Was able to keep a strong pace in the flats and hit the hills pretty hard. Cranenergy in the water bottle was too strong for the stomach which started affecting me 2nd half of bike and into the run. I did finish strong and had energy to sprint to the finish. What would you do differently?: Need to stick with water or something much easier on the stomach. Need to do more brick workout (see run) Transition 2
Comments: Overall transition to run was pretty good. Right around 2 minutes or less. Run
Comments: Run was clearly my weakness in this run. Felt horrible at the beginning. Lingering muscle cramps in back and naseau. Started recovering at the halfway mark as I got to Rt. 110. Stuck with long strides up the hill in the woods and was able to finally get into a good run coming out of the woods into the finish (right behind Sen. Brown!) What would you do differently?: No cranergy on the bike. Need a better shirt with better drying properties. Need to do more brick workouts Post race
Warm down: Hung out and talked with Bill Garnett from AB Swim. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor hydration. More hyrdation early in the morning and subsitute cranergy/water mix for either just water or something easier on the stomach. overall a pretty good race, as I fought through the swim with the cramps and had my best bike race. Event comments: Always a well run race with lots of volunteers. Last updated: 2012-07-05 12:00 AM

Did a transition walk-through the evening before and also practiced the swim to bike transition at home earlier in the afternoon. Overall, this helped as my transitions were quicker than previous races.
Arrived at the race venue around 7am which left plenty of time to get setup.
Did a light run and swim before the race.
