Pre-race routine:

Ate 1.5 PBnJs, 1 bottle of Heed, 1 shot of hammer gel
Event warmup:

rode uncle's boat over to race. Much better than driving 1 hour to get around lake. Ran 1.5 mi, Rode 10 min (3 mil). Put the wetsuit on and went down to the lake. Warmed up swimming maybe 100 yards...tops
Swim
  • 12m 39s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

1st open water swim. Started in first wave so it was nice and smooth after about 150 m. I found someone, David Steele, who was my pace...although in reality was a little too slow. I watched him instead of doing a lot of sighting strokes because I am not good at those.
What would you do differently?:

faster arm turnover and kick more. In a sprint I should have pushed a little more. At start of race, find someone who looks like they know what they are doing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I couldn't find the string to unzip my wetsuit. Also couldn't get it off my heel. Put bike shoes on then ran out of t1 and then stopped got on bike and pedaled off
What would you do differently?:

learn to get the wetsuit off faster, put wetsuit off and helmet on same time. learn t1 mount
Bike
  • 37m 21s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Much better ride then VA DU. enjoyed it. Foot popped out of pedal about 1/2 in the ride and could get snapped back in for about 1 mile. Frustrating. Didn't affect much however. Worked harder felt good
What would you do differently?:

Get more confidence on bike and riding hills. push harder going down
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

forgot to take helmet off...embrassing
What would you do differently?:

take helmet off, rack bike faster,
Run
  • 18m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt strong - just kept passing people. Didn't really hurt at all. Pressed hard through the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Crashed - Ate and drank lots - Smiled more than ever after race

Event comments:
