Pre-race routine:

Woke up, drove to the race site. Stood around waiting for my wave, the last wave, to start.
Swim
  • 06m 26s
  • 383 yards

Comments:

Not a fast swim for me. Not sure where I went wrong. Maybe my lack of swim training? Ha! Got first in my AG, but my time was still slow. I did go wide, so maybe that's what did it?

5th out of 14. Not bad for me since I'm not great at transitions!

Comments:

Two loop course.

This bike course is terrifying! Half of it is inside the park, and there were NOTHING but cracks ALL OVER THE ROAD. Some of them were downright deadly. So inside the park I was having to keep my average down so I could avoid the cracks. A couple of times I got behind slower riders and had to stay there till it was safe to pass. On top of the cracks, there were two places in the road where there was glass OVER THE ENTIRE ROAD. Really? Dang. Just glad I didn't get a flat.

Outside of the park it was awesome and I hauled butt to get my average speed back up. There was a lady with "41" on her calf and outside the park I was able to pass her, but inside the park she passed me back. I knew I wouldn't hold her off on the run, so I did what I could on the bike to keep us even.

Overall a good bike for me. Too bad I couldn't really RIDE inside the park. Would have liked to have seen my bike average if I could have!

Zone 2- 2:46
Zone 3- 15:37
Zone 4- 17:05
Zone 5- 3:39

I feel like my HR zones for the bike need to be redone. Zone 5 for almost 4 minutes? Really? Hum.

6th out of 14. Not great, but OK.
Run
  • 27m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Left on the run and came out pretty fast. I was running a 8:50 mm. Backed it off some, to save some for the end. I only walked once to get some water. Otherwise, I kept running. It hurt and my HR was up there, but I kept pushing. I wasn't sure how this run would go since I had a lot of lower leg pain earlier in the week from running. While my lower legs were tight, I wasn't in really bad pain so that was good.

Thank goodness for my good swim and bike, as it helps me hold off the fast runners!

The girl in first place beat me by 2 minutes and that time was all made up on the run. The girl in third place was 2 minutes behind me. Most of her time was lost on the swim and bike, but we were relatively close pace wise on the run.

Overall a good run, but I can promise you the run course was short. Thus my average is faster than it should be.

Zone 2- 3:22
Zone 3- 23:34
Zone 4- 2:18

Solid tempo effort today.

Event comments:

Overall it was a good race. The park is nice, and the location is close to where I live so I like that. With that said, I won't be doing this race again, unless they change the bike course or fix the roads inside the park. It was just too dangerous with all the cracks in the road.
