Swim
Comments: I swear they said at the race meeting the race was a beach start. So after the meeting I got wet and got my goggles situated and came back to shore. I made checked with another guy about the beach start, but the heard of white caps remained about waist deep in the water. Finally the started the countdown so I found myself in the back well to the outside. I went to work and din't get to worked up and moved through the traffic. Got boxed in and had to run over a dude in a wetsuits, but I backed off when around and kept on truckin. I did a great job navigating and siting, I was dead on the bouys and besides being boxed the one occasion I stayed out of trouble. Felt really good and fluid. Got out of the water in 7:40, 26th in my wave. Ranking were swim + T1 since they didn't have a mat on the beach. What would you do differently?: Other than start in the right spot, I did pretty good. Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad transition. Found my bike no problem. No wetsuit, so no dancing. A little trouble with the socks and the exit row was awful narrow and had to slow up. The guy in front of my almost ate the pavement with the wet road and the bike shoes. A little rough getting clipped in but much better than the Devilman. What would you do differently?: Just get used to bike shoes and getting clipped in smoother, but overall I took my time and had no issues. Bike
Comments: Got going pretty good. Worked at shifting gears to keep a good cadence and effort. Only had a a handful of people pass me the first half, and 2 of those I stuck with and did a back and forth. Later in the ride, the speedsters from the relay teams and third wave started catching up. (They were absolutely flying). I probably could have gone harder on a slightly lower gear, but the time seemed slow especially since I was basically holding my own out there. What would you do differently?: Maybe go with a higher cadence and easier gear, I felt good at end so I could have go harder, but I guess I wasn't in a sprint mindset and settled into a long haul pace in a short race. Also probably should have drank, especially considering I brought the waterbottle Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. No problems finding the rack and racking(first one back). Changed shoes, got an drink, grabbed the hat and went. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: A little disappointed with the run. Felt decent coming out of transition but the most of the first mile was pretty blah. Slowly started picking it up the second two miles, but never really got going and feeling smooth and fast, like it is when I'm going good. Still I did pretty much hold my position (pasted some, got passed by some) and I guess the time wasn't that slow. What would you do differently?: Run more and some speedwork might help. Post race
Warm down: Took a shower in the park changing rooms, and put my bike away in my car. What limited your ability to perform faster: I really wasn't in a great sprint racing frame of mind. I settled in for the long haul instead of getting after it. Overall, I did this race to change things up and to just compete a little as the main focus of the year is the long stuff. Top half overall and in all three diciplines. Fairly consistant relative to the pack. I'm happy. Event comments: I liked this race. No major frills, no DJ, but it was a nice course, a nice lake, good organization, and really good volunteers. I enjoyed the expirience and likely will do it again. Last updated: 2006-05-28 12:00 AM

Loaded up the car early the night before. Got up at 5:15, and hit the road by 5:30. Ate a Danamals Yogurt and an Apple in the car. Almost got lost when close to the site I started following a van with a nice tribike on top. Went about 3 miles past where my directions said to turn, when I decided to turn around. Still got there in plenty of time, got my stuff, aet up transition, visited the facilities and went down to the water.
The weatherman gave up a nice break. Betwwen the T-storms last night and the ones that hit at about the noon when I got home, we certainly lucked out. I went and tested out the water and did some light swimming to the second buoy and back, then headed up for the race meeting.
