Pre-race routine:

im assuming workouts. avg running mileage 20 miles. avg bike miles 60 and avg swims 2 miles
Event warmup:

not much of a warm-up. just made sure i could breathe in the water and not hypervenilate
Swim
  • 49h 17m
  • 2112 yards
  • 2h 20m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

thw swim was good for me. i took 10 mins off my HIM swim time. i think what help is finding a 50m pool to swim in. i only swim twice or three times a week for 1 mile. water temp was 78.8 degrees, but i wore a wetsuit anyway. water was choppy
What would you do differently?:

not much.
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

T1 worked out well. the wetsuit got stuck on one heel, but i tried a couple of new things. putting on my glasses and helmet at the same time in trying to get the wetsuit off and runnning out of t1 barefeet
What would you do differently?:

still need practice in getting into my shoes faster, but with only 2 hrs of practice. i did pretty good
Bike
  • 3h 12m 52s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.42 mile/hr
Comments:

this is a very nice course. the first 17.5 miles is on a 1-2% uphill. there are some very nice stretches where you can go fast. two tough hills - amish country and around mile 50 after going pass an underpass. the park road is actually not bad at all. one spoke actually broke coming out of the park so the bike avg/time would have been better. oh, forgot to mention. we rode in a thunderstorm for a good portion of the bike ride. i need to drink more as well. i think i had at most 50-55 ounces for the three hours. i had two chocolate waffles and one bonk bar. i didnt finish the waffles and bar since the stuff got wet in my darkspeed works bento bag
What would you do differently?:

the only thing i could have done better is to train in a harder gear for the race. i did three 60 plus mile rides to prepare with 2000 ft of climbing so i was prepare. more drinking
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

first attempt to ride with feet on top of shoes for a half mile and im very happy with the results. still need practice, but happy. ran barefoot back into transition. very happy. put on my socks and shoes pretty quicker and grab my hat and belt and put both on as i was running. i did protect my shoes and sock and both were dry as i was putting the socks/shoes on
What would you do differently?:

very happy with my time. could be a little faster, but with the thunderstorms passing through i needed a few seconds to collect myself.
Run
  • 2h 12m 38s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

see above
What would you do differently?:

try and run more hills for my long distance runs or run a higher percentage grade for my treadmill runs. i figured during my bricks and speed/hill workouts i did enough climbing, but it wasnt
Post race
Warm down:

eating, eating and more eating. i didnt stretch until i got back to the room

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i did 50 mins faster than mighty man montauk from last year so im estatic with my performance

Event comments:

great and challenging course. a must do if anyone is considering. stayed at the dorms which was good for the price i paid.

Course: we climb the first 9 miles and we went downhill the last 4 miles. there are four tough hills on the course. first one, runs up the side of someone's house. second one, is through a rocky road. third, is a short distance after this one and the final one is in the college area. i have to say the the aid stations are top notch. most of the water stations had besides water/hed the following, bananas, pretzels, ice, gel, sponges, salt pills and other stuff. i was great to be able to run the course with a cup of ice between aid stations and stay hydrated
