Swim
Comments: I felt great during the swim. There were a few times in which I kicked or swam over people but nothing to complain about with such poor water visibility. What would you do differently?: In trying to round out the buoys, I ended up swimming more of a circular swim rather than a triangular one. This i think added quite a bit of time to my swim and it's something that I definitely need to work on for the next race as I typically swim 4 to 5 200 yard sets in 3:10. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Ran in, glasses first, helmet second, grabbed bike and ran out as fast as I could. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I developed a nasty cramp on my right calf at about mile 7. I dealt with it by removing my right shoe, stretching and massaging the muscle while pedaling with the left leg only. After a few horrible minutes it went away and I was able to pass every rider that passed me while I slowed down to fix the issue. What would you do differently?: Not sure, I need to figure out the possible cause(s) for the cramping. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition off the bike with a flying dismount. Sat down to put shoes on to prevent more cramping on the right calf. This added a bit of time but I think it was well worth the investment. To compensate for this loss of time, I ran without socks. What would you do differently?: Go faster! Run
Comments: I felt like absolute crap when I started to run. Who doesn't? Eventually, I picked up the pace and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Nothing, just more training. I've battled with a fractured fibula for most of this year so there has been no speedwork since April. I'm glad to be able to run at all! Post race
Warm down: Gasped for air for a few minutes. Ate a banana and a Coke before jumping in the lake again for a nice cooldown. What limited your ability to perform faster: I lost a lot of time in the swim, other than that, I'm very happy with my results. This was my first triathlon in over 10 years! Event comments: Great race by the organizers. Last updated: 2012-07-30 12:00 AM

Nothing fancy here. A quick swim to the first sight buoy and back.
