Swim
Comments: holy crap fast for me. SO MANY PEOPLE; didn't get open water until base of triangle. rounding buoy i said good ... because i swam under one. that's definitely a good round ... that, and i think i drafted for the first time ever because holy eff fast. What would you do differently?: not hack up lake water like i always freaking do in cherry creek res. Transition 1
Comments: transition is so big that ... ugh. that's as good as it's going to get, yo. What would you do differently?: possibly run more? register as an elite so i have a better spot in trans? Bike
Comments: weird going back to a primarily beginner race as the bike course got crowded because EVERYONE bunched up. for safety's sake, i wish my fellow competitors would have been more on the sides of the road ... especially for those of us that wanted to pass. What would you do differently?: not much, actually. figure out how i was able to bomb the back half of that course in big ring that one day. Transition 2
Comments: again, i hate how trans is so damn huge. What would you do differently?: not much. run with bike more? Run
Comments: first mile was rough. took in my gel; walked a lot; 10:30 pace. hit mile two at just over 20:00; must have KILLED mile three-point-one. felt timing strap rubbing (not typical neoprene ones); ended up bleeding as a result. booooo. What would you do differently?: not swallow lake water so i could control my breath better. that being said, this race may have been my fastest run average and it was one hell of a neg split, so eh. Post race
Warm down: walking around; foooood. What limited your ability to perform faster: not much today, really. but i could always, ALWAYS train more. Event comments: i love that this is a beginner friendly race, but for those of us with a bit more experience, this can become a huge problem on the bike course. i saw several crashes/near crashes due to the crowded conditions. also; the straps they used for the timing chips were a fail. i didn't want to have mine on any looser ... and yet it chafed my ankle. boo on that.
