Swim
Comments: Got a good start, and got around first buoy in a good position. Was really concentrated on form during first 200M. Once we got spread out I was having some trouble sighting, because of the rounded nature of the course. Ran straight into a swim buoy, grazed a marker buoy and two slow swimmers which killed my momentum. basically came to a full stop twice and slowed down twice. Did better on the finishing straight, sighting off the shoreline. What would you do differently?: I'm not sure how to avoid all that crap. Maybe swim one entire loop of the course before the start? Bring my own swim cap. Transition 1
Comments: steep hill up to transition, but I took it at a good clip. goggles and wetsuit off ok. suit was a little hard to get over the heel, but didn't need to sit down. hop onto bike was a little precarious due to the big hill at mount line. What would you do differently?: Not much, lube up my ankels a ton and maybe work my way up to getting helmet on at same time as peeling off suit, but I think that is still too unsteady and faster to do one at a time. make sure garmin is in multi-sport mode before the start. Bike
Comments: didn't have a lot of attacking spirit - unfocused. The hills were hard, people were really spread out, did catch and pass a few people on the bike, but there just weren't a lot of people What would you do differently?: Good enough result, but I felt flat...maybe too much beer and dehydrated the night before maybe just the weather. Transition 2
Comments: no problem What would you do differently?: drain holes in shoes. Run
Comments: stayed in-the-zone most of the run, not too hard or too slow. Especially when someone told me I was on the podium. What would you do differently?: recognize that the guy way out ahead of me started 10 minutes ahead. Remember I'm racing for the overall, not the age group. Post race
Warm down: not so much What limited your ability to perform faster: night before I should have limited to one beer and hydrate better. Mentally out of it - the new house is more important than racing and the little things I was getting upset with were not good. Event comments: I think having everyone park farther away made it much safer, so that is overall a good thing. Running out of swim caps really was not good though - if they'd have posted a note on the website, or updated facebook or email, that would have been much better. Beach at East Fork is disgusting - cigarette butts, condoms and plastic bottle caps. Had a cop try to wave traffic into me. Post race food sucked as usual. Last updated: 2012-08-06 12:00 AM

left the house about 5 am, banana, clif crunch and coffee. arrived around 6:15, got irritated that they made us park way out this year, and they had no swim caps - of course I took mine out of the bag, since we have to wear theirs anyway. Poured rain before the start, soaking everything.
test out the bike, short jog, most of warmup time was in the water swimming around checking the sighting.
