Swim
Comments: well interesting to say the least. Very shallow...a lot of people just ran...including the one person who got out ahead of me. I was happy with my swim pace without a wet suit...No real warmup to speak of... What would you do differently?: Actually be prepared for the Tri..so focused on getting Madison ready and watching, worrying, that didnt really mentally give this race much though beforehand. Transition 1
Comments: Although second into T area..my area was in shambles. Doesnt help that 5 minutes before...i had just made a huge mess digging for my goggles and cap and dumped my sweats and sweatshirt there. I had forgotten another towel and the on there was soaked by someone else...so had no dry towel for feet. Brief attempt at getting a sock on...bagged it and just got into the bike shoes..Waived hi to the wife and kids and moved on out. What would you do differently?: Actually have my transition area set up..bring another towel. Bike
Comments: Ok... this is my limiter. 1. Similar to the LGeneva Tri--it took a bit for my legs to warm up. There it was a bit longer of a swim...Probably need to realy think about a good bike warmup for the shorter races. Cornering was suprisingy poor. I remember being quite happy about the lines i took on my last tri...here i dont know if it was the aero position or more gravel or what but they were horrible. What would you do differently?: Ditch the gloves for short rides. Ride harder...especially after seeing the run split. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot hat and turned around to get it. Also skipped the sock thing again and prayed for no blisters. What would you do differently?: Bag that hat for a short run. Run
Comments: Wow.Nice to know hard work pays off. Last year couldnt run a 10 min mile...now 22 min 5k. So far...no transition to run has been that bad..After about 4-5 min not so bad. The problem here (and sort of with the bike), all my training has been essentially z2..long distance training for the half IM. I had no idea what pace to go for...Plus the HRM was all screwed up and had no idea what my splits were. My legs felt heavy all day...HRM all day seemed to say i had a lot left in the tank. Probably actually left a few minutes out there on the run or bike. Overall though, my goal was a sub 24 min 5K. Time to focus on the bike What would you do differently?: Either pace a little faster, or mentally gut it up for the last quarter mile. Post race
Warm down: Not much...found the kids, walked a little bit. Then watched them play in the park for a while What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. C type race...no mental prep.. 2. Not knowing i could push a little harder for the hr long race. 3. Heart rate monitor/watch toast... 4. Legs just felt heavy the whole time...didnt do anything sat..did do a nice pace run Fri. Event comments: Awesome kids Tri.. MY son had a blast and that was THE goal. I wish they would have waited for the kids to finish before the adult waves went off..or at least put adults with kids in the last wave. The adult tri was fun...People were friendly, helpful, excited to be there. I have a new personal record for a 5k and know i need to work on some mental prep, bike lots more, and hopefully a proper taper/warmup wont leave my legs feeling dead. Not much of one..No sleep the night before trying to get kids to bed in motel. Madison admitted he was pretty scared about the tri and especially the bike..We talked a lot about it and eventually we both passed out in the bed maybe by 11:00pm? No decent pre-race nutrition to speak of...just food at movie theatre, and "international festival" in downtown greenbay...
Did ride a 1 mile loop with Madison around 6:30. Then ran around like a chicken with its head cut off looking for Becky and Maya. Maya was a trooper to get up so early to cheer for her big brother but when she was there...she felt like she was going to throw up. Becky was busy tending to her...me for maddy to get out Transition areas set up..find a phillips screwdriver to fix his bike..Then depseratly looking for Becky so she wouldnt miss Madison's start. Finally gave up and was just hoping she was by the pseudolake. Then if you count sprinting from the kids finish to the transition area to the water start..then i guess there was a warmup in there.
