Event comments:

I participated in both 2011 and 2012 events. The race is not USAT sanctioned but could be termed a fairly well run, somewhat informal event good for triathletes wishing to participate in such an event. The people at the race are nice and helpful and the venue is fairly good (except the bike is on roads with normal traffic). I probably won't participate again as I prefer something with a little better organization and "hype". Here is where they can improve things. First, as in other years, there was no website to obtain information....no course maps, parking, etc. Second, there are not enough volunteers in the transition area (which is long and narrow) to keep things organized. There were way too many people in the transition area during the race, including non-participants just using the area as a walkway. Also too many slow racers coming out of water while racers coming in off the bike who had little clue to get out of the way. Spectators had to yell to people not paying attention. Again, not enough officials in the transition (saw only one) to keep things organized. Third, the finish of the race for early finishers was something of a non-event. There is no announcer, no music, and when the first place finisher came in, about 10 people were there including three officials who really weren't prepared because there is no one to give them a heads up where the first place finisher is one the course and they didn't realize the first place guy was coming in under an hour. Finally, the local newspaper treated the event as not very important. There was no picture of the top five finishers,(like there was last year) with most of the print seemingly devoted to local Brigantine residents who participated. For being the 25th anniversary, it was really pretty low key. Again, nice race for local people for something to do but for having over 500 participants and doing it for 25 years, it's a little too informal.
