Swim
Comments: Even though it was slow, it actually felt really good. A little crowded at the first 100 yards or slow. I just relaxed and took my time. Never got freaked out. Never got tired. Was very surprised when I rounded the last bouy that I felt so good. Had a tendancy to drift to the right, but overall I felt good about my sighting. One of the best open water swims that I can remember. What would you do differently?: Train... Transition 1
Comments: Very long run (1/2 mile?) from swim exit to transition. Gave me a chance to pass a few folks. Got stuck at the mount line clipping in. Took about 5 extra seconds (felt like forever) to clip in. Putting on shoes didn't feel smooth, either. Just didn't feel like a good T1. What would you do differently?: Work on clipping in quickly. I've gotta learn to jump on the bike. Bike
Comments: Fun ride, speed wise. Felt strong and had moments where I oouldn't keep my heart rate down. The roads were rotten. Very rough and many of the spray painted markinging identifying hazards blended with the trees. I hit one that knocked the wind out of me. Overall felt really smooth and fast. Very pleased, and it didn't tank my run time like the ride did 2 weeks ago. Nose piece came off of sunglasses when I pulled them out of the bento box. Didn't realize it and I lost the piece. I subsequently spent most of the ride pushing my sunglasses up into a comfortable position. What would you do differently?: Attack more at the end, and train speed on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: 2nd fastest in AG. Took 3 times to rack my bike bars. Struggled some with shoes. Didn't put on socks (no residual issues with this). What would you do differently?: Maybe move my towel back towards to rear wheel more. Feels like I'm reaching a lot to get to run gear. Run
Comments: Didn't wear sunglasses (see above). Per usual, flew out of T2 and had to recover after 1/2 mile. Calmed down, drank some at Mile 1 and settled in. Actually negative split each mile. Really turned in on during last 3/4 mile and felt strong. Passed several in my AG during last 3/4 mile. It was a warm run on the blacktop with no shade. What would you do differently?: Try to calm down out of T2 and settle in sooner. I can pace almost sub-6 once I settle down, just need to get there sooner. Post race
Warm down: Drank a powerade and a chocolate milk. Walked it out. Actually felt pretty good after the race and not overly spent. What limited your ability to perform faster: The fact that I swim like a cinder block. Event comments: Of the major sprints in LA (Cajun Man, Meat Pie, River Cities) this one is my least favorite. The ride is just bad with the rough roads. The run from T1 was long, too. Swag was nice, though, and post-race was very good. Last updated: 2012-08-19 12:00 AM

Woke up at 0300 and drove to race. Was pretty tired driving in and setting up. Ate a couple tortillas on the way in.
2 mile slow run.
