Swim
Comments: Was really happy to have a clean uneventful open-water swim here after my last tri (1st open water swim at Echo Coalville) was so rough. Felt relaxed and prepared, did not go super fast but established consistent stroke and breathing rhythm and managed the crowd well. Did freestyle nearly the whole way with one short stretch of breaststroke to rest and sight after the first buoy. Gained a lot of confidence on this OWS and now can start working on improving the time! What would you do differently?: Could reach, stroke, kick and rotate a little more aggressively to improve time. Transition 1
Comments: I'm guessing at the T1 time since I had a little snafu with the timing chip - took it off my ankle to get the wetsuit off (got stuck on the timing chip)... and then forgot to strap the chip back on ... so my T1, bike and T2 times are all lumped together in the published results. I'm also guessing that I was pretty slow in this T1 ... did not really bust it up the hill from water to bike and getting the wetsuit off and bike gear took some time ... this is something I can work on. What would you do differently?: Hustle and practice wetsuit-to-bike transition. Remember to put the damn timing chip back on. Bike
Comments: Again guessing at the time but it appears I was slower than I thought since it seemed like I passed more people than passed me and I pushed the pace pretty good on the last half of the ride. Felt like I had a pretty decent ride - went at it harder than in practice on the same course two weeks prior. Transition 2
Comments: Took a swig of Gatorade and changed shirts so this may have slowed me down a few seconds What would you do differently?: Grab some liquids at run station instead of in T2. Plan to not change shirts if possible Run
Comments: Since the race started a half hour late at about 9 a.m., by the time it came to run the sun was fully out and it was pretty warm. I was pretty much shuffling instead of striding as I had planned & practiced and walked for a short stretch on the last half going up a hill on the trail run. I did however pass a fellow competitor who had passed me early on. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing the bike-run bricks ... I had done a lot more of these recently in my training routines and I think they have helped mentally though it didn't really show in the time today. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had some fruit, 1/2 bagel and a G3 recovery drink. Had to ride 3 miles uphill with full wetsuit gear in backpack back to parking area - that was probably the hardest part of the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Relatively long swim and bike sections for this sprint tri - that slowed down my run. Also I don't seem to be going as fast on the bike as I think I am relative to other age-groupers ... may need to revisit training regimen and gear (time to go for real clip-ins?) Event comments: I had really looked forward to my first Jordanelle experience and the course was a good challenge and the triathletes and volunteers were all friendly and helpful. I look forward to doing this again and improving on the time. Last updated: 2012-08-19 12:00 AM

Got up early 3:30 a.m. to eat breakfast, then went back to sleep until 6. Sipped Gatorade on the drive and had a G1 about 30 minutes before start
Coasted on bike for 3 miles from parking area to check-in area. Swam about 100 yds to get a feel for the water
