Swim
What would you do differently?: not get all petered out after the first 100m. I did a good job breathing on both sides then switching to every 2nd stroke on my right side. I was suprised at how fast I got tired... Did get passed 3 times... I was 20th in the pool Transition 1
Comments: Happy with T1, I could have ran a little harder I guess. There transition area was really packed (I was on the front row) and when I got to my bike the girl next to me was all crowded around my space with her crap everywhere... it was like trying to get ready in the morning with your wife in the bathroom. She had her goggles on my stuff her towel on my stuff... but I managed, happy with T1. Getting better tying shoes up with rubber bands. Transition area is looking very effecient... What would you do differently?: run a little harder to get to bike. I do need to work on the jump and go on the bike. Goal was under 1:30... so I beat that Bike
Comments: Dont know that I could have went any harder except on hills. Avg speed was what I do now at race pace, when I am training I think I do just 16. Maybe could have went a little harder on the hills. I have never blown my legs on the bike and ruined it for the run so I have no idea what that feels like. I passed the 3 people who passed me in the pool (suckers) and the girl who started #2; so I was stoked about that. I did get passed 2 times, the last time was the guy racing by me going in to T2. What would you do differently?: Harder on the hills, Harder on the hills... Wanted to be under 25 min on bike, so I missed that by 2 minutes... a little hillier than I thought. Transition 2
Comments: I liked this T2, very effecient. I ran with bike thru transition but we had to go around this big concret block so I couldnt go balls out. What would you do differently?: nothing, cant complain about a 54 in a T2. Saw pros do a 40 at MIM so I am close and happy with mine. Goal was under 1:20 and I killed that... Run
Comments: I missed the water station coming straight out of transition, the girl handing out the water was holding it up in the air, I would have had to been Shaq to have reached it... legs took about a half a mile to feel good, so I took baby running steps and kept cadence up. It got hot really fast so at the turn I took a water and then took another water and walked for 5 seconds and dumped it on my head. then I took off, I felt a lot better on the run back. I did get passed by 1 person in my age group and he beat me by 3 seconds... so I was a little mad about that. I just petered out... What would you do differently?: run harder.. time to beat was anything under 18. and I cannot complain about a 15:46. so I wont. Post race
Warm down: stood around and rooted for people to come in for the bike. That was really strange to be done and yell for people to come in and leave from the pool or to come in from the bike ride; so early. What limited your ability to perform faster: not sure anything did, felt like I gave it my all. I am pretty happy with it. Especially my transitions which is where I really wanted to improve and I am happy with my times there. Oh and no belly problems this time.... Got up at 5am took shower and got my son up and ready. Loaded the car and on the way ate a pro bar and drank water. Got to race site and set up transition area, met with fellow races and BTers and chatted.
Did a 1 mile run to warm up and swam 100m in the pool. I know this is a small sprint and I was doing it for fun and I also wanted to work on my transition times because they sucked my Memphis in May. Never did a sprint of this size before so my goal was under 50 min.
