Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 943/1539
Age Group = athena
Age Group Rank = 13/34
Pre-race routine:

Didn't try anything fancy. Got up real early and hed coffee egg sandwich about 4:00 am. Got to the race real early. Tried to stay calm.
Event warmup:

No warm up
Swim
  • 22m 31s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was surprised that I swam as fast as I did considering how sore my shoulders were in the weeks leading up to the race.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. I always start out to fast and seem like it is so hard to keep a rhythm. When someone passes me, I always want to try and catch up to them and that little spurt of adrenaline is so hard to recover from.
Transition 1
  • 03m 55s
Comments:

I still can't get my second foot into the strap fast enough. Probably wasted at least 3-4 mins trying to get that second foot in. Shaved abut 1:30 off of last race so that is good.
What would you do differently?:

It was a long, long run to the transition area. I will have to practice running more after a long swim.
Bike
  • 47m 40s
  • 12 miles
  • 15.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Love the new bike. So fast. Felt more in control than last race. Still have a lot of trouble getting that second foot in. Probably wasted 3-4 minutes trying to get going.
What would you do differently?:

I tried to pedal at a constant cadence and that felt way more productive. Will train at a consistent cadence for a shorter distance rather than trying to go a longer distance.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

This was very fast because I ride with my running shoes on.
Run
  • 40m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 13m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I just can't seem to run any faster. People pass me all the time and that is so hard to take. I was able to run the whole time which was a surprise because I didn't do much conditioning.
What would you do differently?:

I might need to space these races out to be able to recover and have time get ready for the next one.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was limited by the pain and inflammation that has come on in the last three months or so.

Event comments:

The race itself was very well run. The after race facility was a nightmare. I'm glad that I got to the goodie section first and didn't have to wait through that really long line. This race was the goal of all this training and effort and I made it. Unfortunately, this may be my last race as I have developed a very painful inflammation problem which may end my racing career. I still have plans to continue next year but we'll just have to see.
