Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim, considering I hadn't stepped foot in a pool for about 2 weeks. I felt sluggish the first 800 meters or so and then found my (slow) rhythym. It was a little tough sighting with the sun blasting in your face over the water, so I just acted like a lemming and followed the herd since I was relatively behind 90% of everybody in my age group. What would you do differently?: Swim more to practice. I need to increase my open water swim abilities, but it's rather tough living where I do. Transition 1
Comments: The wetsuit strippers ROCKED. What would you do differently?: Nothing...this was probably my best T1 ever. Of course, stopping my watch accidentally might contribute to the "best ever". :) Actually, it was the best one so far based on feel. Bike
Comments: As usual, I hammered the bike. I probably got mad at a few clusters of people and then got up out of the saddle and killed it...that hurt me in the run, I'm afraid. What would you do differently?: I need to pace myself a little bit slower (maybe) or just work on my run? Transition 2
Comments: This was an easy transition. I was laughing at the guy next to me as he started to run with his helmet on and then came back and put it down, laughing at himself. That was funny. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Run
Comments: I started out with a 9 min/mile pace which is horrendously fast for me (don't laugh). I eased it back into my plan of 10 min/mile but then felt like a slowass when everybody else was passing me. Miles 1 and 2 were quad hell as they hurt really bad (see above mention of standing up on the bike because I was impatient). Oh well. I slowed to a death crawl of walking and running after mile 8 smacked me in the face. What would you do differently?: Work on my run more. I really need to train at this running thing. I didn't exactly guy through it like I so admirably thought I would. Post race
Warm down: Beer at the Tribe Multisport tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training during the previous 2 weeks. Excessive amounts of beer in lieu of training. I don't know... Event comments: It was my first half ironman distance race. I loved it. Well put on, well done, the wetsuit strippers were awesome, the bike course had too many u turns, but hey...I need to get over it, and the run course was pretty nice.
