Pre-race routine:

I ate some toast and had some tea. I was ready at 715AM. I wanted to leave at 7:30AM. We left at 7:45AM. Had to park pretty far from start.
Event warmup:

I got close enough to hear the national anthem starting so I started sprinting , stripped off my pants and sweatshirt, threw them in a bush , climbed over the railing and got in wave 1 2 minutes before the start. Not good

Comments:

I wanted to run like last year, reasonably hard the first two miles and then steady after that. I hit 2 miles in 13 minutes , just like last year. I think my lack of any warmup jumped in and bit me here. I felt cold and tight and gassed. I hit 3 miles at 20:15 and was fading. I just jogged in the last 2 miles as I had seen my PR chance evaporate and I was not feeling good at all.
What would you do differently?:

like I told my wife - " I want to make sure I get 10 minutes of warmup in " - something must have gotten lost in the male to female translation :)
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and spoke with fellow 'Burgians

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A warm up is essential for shorter faster races

Event comments:

up until yesterday I didnt have a long sleeved bright neon yellow race shirt - Always good to start the morning with a run followed by a giant breakfast at Perkins ( please remember to tip heavily when dining out on a holiday )
