Swim
Comments: The water was murky and on the cool side. They allowed booties, and I kind of wish I had them. Knowing that I'm slow, and the water was murky, I planned on starting off slow, and allowing myself to become comfortable with the conditions before really getting into things. This worked very well for me as it allowed the faster swimmers to get ahead of me. The only issue I had was that at some point, a swimmer crawling over me somehow grabbed my zipper and yanked it part way down, so I had to head over to one of the kayaks, and have them pull it back up. What would you do differently?: My swim coach recommended yellow polarized googles for the murky conditions, but I was unable to find any at the last minute. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time in T1. What would you do differently?: Wish I had put on my own sun screen. The helpers were nice, but didn't get everywhere, and now I have a few red spots where they missed Bike
Comments: On loop one, we had a slight headwind going out (uphill), but by loop 2 and 3 it had changed, and was now at our backs which was nice. The wind was only at about 3-4 mph, so not really a factor. My only real issue here was that by loop 3, my neck was getting tired of holding my head up in the aero position, and by the end of loop three I couldn't ride in that position at all. I was having to sit up pretty straight. The split times show that my speed slowed down significantly on loop three What would you do differently?: Need to work more on exercising my neck, and being able to stay in aero position for extended lengths of time Transition 2
Comments: Again, no hurry here. I knew I was on track for getting a PR, so I paced myself. What would you do differently?: I thought I would take my phone with me, so that my wife could contact me / track me as necessary. However, with the jersey pockets, the phone was bouncing around too much, and I ended up having to hold it in my hand. I should never have brought it. Run
Comments: I was diagnosed with a stress fracture in my foot about 2 months prior to the race, and not a lot I could do about it except not exercise (Not an option), so when it came time to run, I was paying for it. I was having to stop just about every other mile, and take off my shoe and massage my foot. I know that I could have done much better if it weren't for this. The course itself was nice, and my only wish is that it was a touch cooler. I think the high was 76-77, and we were still in that range when we started running What would you do differently?: I need to deal with the stress fracture in my foot. Post race
Warm down: Didn't really have any appetite to eat after wards, so just chilled for a few minutes, then back to the hotel for a nice hot bath and bed. What limited your ability to perform faster: Clearly my stress fracture in the foot was my biggest limitation. Event comments: Lots of volunteers, lots of aid stations, well organized, great course. Nothing but positive things to say. Last updated: 2012-11-19 12:00 AM

Stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites, very nice. Up at 4:45, some Ensure and a banana for breakfast then off to the site. Made last minute additions to gear bags and filled up my water bottles on the bike, then hung around till it was time to suit up and get in the water
