Run
Comments: Before the start I ran into a friend that was just back from a year off to get married, asked me if I would pace him for the first couple of miles for a 1:40 goal. Took off and stayed right around 7:50 pace for the first half of the course before he told me he was good to go. Spent the back half of the course picking off runners ahead of me, working on my mental game. I got passed by 1 person from mile 10 on (and she was flying!), which made me happy. And a strong sprint to the finish is fun too :) What would you do differently?: Given that I was pacing a friend for the first 6 miles, I think this turned into a great race. My A+ goal when I started training was 1:30:00, which was super aggressive on my part (but also very good motivation). Post race
Warm down: Walked through the recovery area, picked up a bagel, banana, some water and a zone bar to start getting myself put back together. Stretched a little after finding my family in the sea of people. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pacing a friend, piriformis issues over last month Event comments: Last year I hit the wall hard at this very race, so this was more about hitting back. I PR'd by 2min despite pacing my friend through 6 before working down to race pace. Hopefully this sets up a nice season to come. Last updated: 2012-12-18 12:00 AM

It was early! Woke up at 4:45, had 24oz water and some dry cheerios. Spent some time in the bathroom 'waking up' which seems to be my normal. Left for the race around 6:10 to drive downtown.
Walked from the arena district (park) to the starting line. Very happy to find a restroom with no line enroute. Sat around and talked with my wife and mom until 7:20 or so before starting to stretch and do the pre-race restroom shuffle. Stretched pretty heavily, especially my piriformis which played a heavy impact on the last month of my training.
