Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45 and had two peanut butter and honey bagels. Got dressed, grabbed everything I would need and went across the street to the shuttle pickup.
We waited longer than we would have liked but we still got there in time (though just barely) to use the bathrooms again and get to the back of the line.
Event warmup:

It's a marathon so no warmup is really necessary.
Run
  • 5h 01m 58s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off really slow because my garmin wouldn't connect to any satellites (for the first 30min) and I didn't know my pace. Eventually got into a good 11-12m/m stride, relaxed and just kept moving forward.
It was cold at the start and the wind really chills you quick. There seemed to be a crosswind no matter which way we were facing.
As slow as we were going, the miles did seem to pass by pretty quickly.
There was a lot to see and running with Shelly helps a good deal.
A little after mile 10, we were passing our hotel and saw my parents outside waving. We went over for a few minutes and handed off a layer of clothes. It felt so much better to be running in just shorts now but I regretted giving up my gloves. I kept expecting us to have a stretch of sun but there were too many high rise condos blocking the warmth.
Ocean Blvd was also hard to run on because of the steep pitch of the road. Many runners were running along the yellow line because it was more flat.
There was a small section that was beachside and then at mile 17-18, the road went E->W so we warmed up and really started enjoying the run more.
There were bands playing and a grandma DJ and soo many pink Emmi shirts. It was a great feeling just being a part of this race and seeing how well our friends (and family) were doing.
After we chatted with Trish for a few minutes (around 19mi), we started to pick up the pace a little. Nothing drastic; probably 10:30m/m. We held this pace for the rest of run and were just ecstatic to see more friends and family at the finish line and to cross the line hand in hand.
It was a perfect day.
What would you do differently?:

I treated it like a long training run and am pretty pleased with how I felt afterward.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage and a few snacks. The massage was about worthless and much of the food was gone by the time we finished though :(

Event comments:

It was a well put together race. I would like to see more than 2 food stops and the portajohns were spaced too far apart.
