Swim
Comments: Much better performance than Innsbrook. I felt a lot more comfortable in the water. I'm still not 100% but I can totally tell how just the one experience in open water helped me out. I think I am going to be much better for the Olympic Distance coming up in August. Still a LARGE amount of room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Keep plugging away and relax even more. Need to trust my training even more. It will come with time. Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble finding the zipper on the swim skin. Could be better. Needed to pull cap and goggles off first. What would you do differently?: Get goggles and cap off first and then worry about the swim skin. Bike
Comments: Killed it on the bike! Ate a gel around 5 miles in. Felt good the whole ride. Lots of headwinds though. It felt like every other turn was going straight into a headwind. What would you do differently?: Start to carry another water bottle along with a second gel. With the distances getting longer, I need more fluids and nutrition. Transition 2
Comments: Time wasted again on tying the shoes. What would you do differently?: Gotta get some speed laces. Run
Comments: Run felt good until mile 3. The lower back issues and hip flexor issues that I have had all week flared up and made me have to walk. If I didn't walk, I probably could have cut 2-3 minutes off the time and had probably the best run segment of the season. I just need to get healthy and I should be good for Lake St. Louis Olympic. What would you do differently?: Avoid all of the sprinklers from the residents. By the end of the run, my shoes were squishing. It felt nice in the increasing heat, however, it caused additional issues. Post race
Warm down: Walked through the streets and available food. Drank two bottles of water. Stretched the lower back and hip flexor in the shade. Went back to transition and found my family. What limited your ability to perform faster: The lower back and hip flexor issues Event comments: Great race! Lots of volunteers and the course was well marked. I will definitely race this again next year. It's very flat and is perfect for going all out to set a record. Great venue and all of the residents of New Town are VERY supportive of the race. Kids were out using their water guns to spray down all the racers. I had a fantastic time! Last updated: 2013-01-10 12:00 AM

Woke up and went through the normal morning routine. Everything was already packed. Loaded up and left. Said goodbye to the family. My wife was sleeping in the nursery because my 8 month old had a really hard time sleeping.
Jogged some around transition. Probably should have gotten in the water to have a little warmup swim. Back was feeling pretty good despite all the issues over the last week.
