Swim
Comments: This was my first large race and I wasn't prepared for the combat in open water. It seemed that every time I tried to pick up the pace I ran into someones feet. I was hit in the back, head and legs throughout the swim but i also hit some other swimmers. I was hoping to finish in around 42 minutes. What would you do differently?: Stay more to the outside where it is less congested. Transition 1
Comments: A little slow but since it was going to be a long day I didn't hurry it too much. It did take longer to get off my wetsuit than I wanted it to be. What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe lube up my legs more. Bike
Comments: I took the first hour strong and hit 20.1 miles in the first hour. I maintained a smooth cadence and took the last two miles a little easier. The one glitch was that my Garmin (which I planned on sending back to Garmin after the race) died at around mile 30. What would you do differently?: Not much, I felt comfortable all the way. More sunscreen is needed for the ride, my hands and neck are fried. Transition 2
Comments: I spent a few seconds looking for my other watch before realizing that I left it in the car. Run
Comments: Without a watch I had no idea what pace I was running. I took the first lap at a comfortable pace but slowed don considerably in the heat on the second lap. What would you do differently?: Run faster on the second lap! Next time I will have a second watch in transition in case my Garmin dies. Post race
Warm down: Water, food. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat on the run and not knowing my pace on the last half of the bike and run. This was my first HIM, my goal was to finish around 6 hours, I am happy with my results. Event comments: WTC lived up to the hype and ran a great race. Last updated: 2013-02-08 12:00 AM

I set my alarm for 4:15 but woke up at around 3:45. I took a shower then had my normal pre long run/ride breakfast of oatmeal, coffee and a banana. I left the hotel at 4:50 then waited in line for 25 minutes to park. I finally got to the transition area about 5:35. After setting up I talked with my friend Jeff from Austin then relaxed for a while.
I swam two laps around the roped off swim beach area as a warm up.
