Pre-race routine:

Up at 0340, Best Western in Lawrence actually had the breakfast out for us at 0400 which was wonderful. 3 hardboiled eggs, cup of coffee, banana and small cup of oatmeal.
Event warmup:

got T2 and T1 set up. Split transition and due to weather they let us check out bikes in the morning.
Swim
  • 27m 37s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Much better swim that I thought I would have. Training was focused on Bike/Run, but the swim was a nice start to a great race. Light chop from a breeze, much easier coming home.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a new wetsuit. The Velcro rubbed the heck out of my neck.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

KS 70.3 has a narrow and long T1. I was in a spot right out of the swim. Trying to get through the rest of the transition with my bike was a challenge to do quickly.
What would you do differently?:

I dropped food running out. In the future I'll tape it to the bike and then once I get rolling on the bike I'll rip it off and put it into my pockets.
Bike
  • 2h 32m 35s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Fantastic bike for me, lots of room on the roads. If you're new to triathlons, please remember to ride on the right and let people pass on the left. Lots of people riding in the middle to left of lanes for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

At the time I didn't know it, but hydrate better. Took in my 20oz of 3Fuel throughout the ride, but not enough water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Good T2. easy to move through.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 42m 23s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

As noted on the bike I didn't drink enough water. Started cramping in the hamstrings and quads in my right leg on mile 2. Stopped for a few seconds to compose myself, just started running again and pushed through the pain. Eventually got some sodium in my body and got the cramping under control. Tried drinking cola for the first time on a Tri and felt like it had a positive effect. Drank it on miles 3, 6, 9.
What would you do differently?:

Drank more water on the run and/or used salt tabs.
Post race
Warm down:

Chowed down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Missed my mark on good hydration.

Event comments:

Fantastic race. I'll recommend this one to anyone. I loved it.
